Saumur-Champigny “Les Poyeux” 2012 – Clos Rougeard
The estate’s iconic cuvée, combining power, depth, and the absolute elegance of Cabernet Franc
Terroir
The legendary Les Poyeux parcel is located in Chacé, on a south-facing slope considered the most powerful and sun-drenched terroir of Saumur-Champigny. The Cabernet Franc vines are rooted in limestone sands and tuffeau soils, delivering exceptional ripeness and unrivalled depth. This unique terroir, combined with the legendary craftsmanship of Clos Rougeard, gives birth to a wine of great intensity, majestic structure, and extraordinary aging potential.
Tasting Notes
Nose / Aromatics:
The nose is deep and complex, revealing aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant, and dark berries, interwoven with floral notes, hints of graphite, cedar, and subtle smoky and earthy nuances. The bouquet is precise, noble, and beautifully layered.
Palate / Structure:
On the palate, the wine is broad and powerful, supported by dense, silky tannins and a perfectly integrated natural acidity. The fruit is concentrated and pure, framed by a chalky mineral backbone that brings tension, balance, and depth. The texture is majestic, built for long, graceful aging.
Finish:
The finish is long and persistent, marked by dark fruit, spice, and a lasting chalky minerality, expressing the grandeur of Les Poyeux and the timeless stature of this legendary wine from Clos Rougeard.
