La Petite Sibérie 2017 — Clos des Fées
La Petite Sibérie 2017 from Clos des Fées is one of the rarest and most emblematic cuvées of Roussillon. Sourced from a single parcel of old Grenache Noir vines, it expresses an intense, deep and highly personal vision of great Mediterranean red wine.
The 2017 vintage delivers a broad, dark and concentrated wine, marked by black fruit, spices, liquorice, graphite, cocoa and a touch of garrigue. The palate is rich, structured and velvety, with impressive length and an age-worthy frame.
Terroir and winemaking
La Petite Sibérie comes from a parcel of old vines in the Vingrau area, on a poor, windswept terroir strongly marked by schist. The name of the cuvée evokes the cold wind that regularly crosses this site, bringing contrast and tension to a naturally sunny region.
The wine is made mainly from Grenache Noir, complemented by small proportions of Mourvèdre and Syrah. Vinification includes a maceration of around 20 days, gentle extraction, ageing in new barrels on the lees and bottling without filtration, preserving the density and identity of the cru.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep, dark red with garnet reflections, dense and still very sustained.
Nose: powerful and expressive, with blackberry, black raspberry, blackcurrant, spices, liquorice, mocha, graphite and garrigue notes. With air, nuances of fine leather, tobacco, camphor and warm stone emerge.
Palate: broad, rich and velvety, with deep substance and tight yet ripe tannins. The finish is long, savoury, spicy and mineral, carried by a sense of controlled power.
The 2017 vintage and ageing potential
The 2017 vintage gives La Petite Sibérie a generous, intense and highly structured expression. The dark fruit remains dense, while balance comes from the freshness of the site, deep tannins and the mineral energy of the terroir.
This wine can already be enjoyed after careful aeration, while still retaining strong ageing potential. With time, it will develop further notes of leather, light truffle, melted spices, tobacco and dry garrigue. Serve at around 16 to 18°C, ideally after decanting.
Key points: a legendary cuvée from Clos des Fées, sourced from the old vines of La Petite Sibérie, rare, intense, structured and marked by dark fruit, spices, graphite, garrigue and impressive length.
Food pairings: hare à la royale, wild boar stew, venison, slow-cooked lamb, roast pigeon, Provençal beef stew, dry-aged ribeye, gently spiced dishes or mature washed-rind cheeses.
