La Petite Sibérie 2014 — Clos des Fées

La Petite Sibérie 2014 from Clos des Fées is one of the rarest and most sought-after wines of Roussillon. Born from a singular parcel of old Grenache Noir vines, it expresses an intense, deep and highly personal vision of great Mediterranean red wine.

The 2014 vintage offers a powerful, dark and already complex wine, marked by blackberry, blackcurrant, sweet spices, graphite, cocoa, liquorice and a dense yet velvety tannic frame. Presented in its original wooden case of one bottle, it is intended for lovers of rare, age-worthy wines with a strong identity.

Terroir and winemaking

La Petite Sibérie comes from a single parcel of old Grenache Noir vines trained in the traditional gobelet style, exposed to extreme climatic conditions. The name of the cuvée evokes the cold wind that regularly crosses this site, bringing contrast, tension and freshness to a naturally sunny region.

The soils combine clay-limestone, schist and reddish-black mica schist rich in iron. Vinification is based on a maceration of around 20 days, gentle extraction through regular punch-downs, ageing on the lees and bottling without filtration, preserving the wine’s density and identity.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep, dark red with garnet reflections, dense and still very sustained.

Nose: powerful and complex, with blackberry, blackcurrant, black raspberry, sweet spices, cocoa, liquorice, graphite and garrigue notes. With air, fine leather, tobacco, light truffle and warm stone nuances emerge.

Palate: broad, concentrated and velvety, with tight yet polished tannins. The richness of Grenache remains balanced by mineral freshness and a long, spicy, deep and persistent finish.

Expert review

95/100 — James Suckling

The review highlights the depth and evolution of this 2014 vintage, with notes of blackberry, tobacco, truffle, cigar box and roasted mushrooms. The palate is broad, ripe and structured, confirming La Petite Sibérie’s status among the great cuvées of Roussillon.

The 2014 vintage and ageing potential

The 2014 vintage gives this wine a more nuanced than solar expression, with fine tension and an aromatic evolution already underway. It nevertheless retains the powerful structure typical of La Petite Sibérie: concentration, deep tannins, mineral energy and impressive length.

Decanting is recommended to allow the aromas to open gradually. Serve at around 16 to 17°C. The wine can be enjoyed now with careful aeration, while still offering further evolution towards leather, truffle, melted spices and dry garrigue notes.

Key points: a legendary cuvée from Clos des Fées, sourced from the old Grenache Noir vines of La Petite Sibérie, rare, intense, structured and presented in its original wooden case of one bottle.

Food pairings: wild boar stew, venison fillet, game in rich sauce, slow-cooked lamb, roast pigeon, Provençal beef stew, dry-aged ribeye, gently spiced dishes, farmhouse Saint-Nectaire or mature washed-rind cheeses.
