Domaine de Trévallon 2016 — Alpilles

This Domaine de Trévallon 2016, offered here in magnum 1.5 L, embodies one of the most singular, profound and sought-after expressions of Provence’s great red wines. Born in the heart of the Alpilles, this wine combines the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, the Mediterranean nobility of Syrah and the wild identity of an exceptional limestone terroir: cassis, blackberry, black plum, black cherry, violet, black pepper, garrigue, thyme, bay leaf, cedar, graphite, liquorice, fine leather, black olive, warm earth and a long mineral finish.

Domaine de Trévallon holds a unique place in the French wine landscape, renowned for red wines of great personality, at once Mediterranean, structured, fresh and capable of remarkable ageing. The 2016 vintage, profound, balanced and highly precise in southern France, gives here a dense, distinguished and harmonious wine, where fruit ripeness remains carried by limestone freshness and very distinctive energy. The magnum format encourages slower evolution, better preservation of freshness and a particularly sought-after collector dimension.

The spirit of the wine

A great Provençal red of depth, character and nobility, where the richness of the 2016 vintage remains carried by structuring freshness and a strong limestone imprint. The wine combines ripe black fruits, violet, pepper, garrigue, cedar, graphite, liquorice, fine leather and black olive, with a broad, dense, silky and highly persistent palate. The magnum format reinforces its ageing potential, balance and collector character.

Terroir: Alpilles, limestone, garrigue and Mediterranean depth

Domaine de Trévallon is located in the Alpilles, on limestone, stony and poor soils, exposed to Provençal light and the cooling influences of the relief. This terroir gives wines that are both solar and taut, capable of combining concentration, freshness, spice, aromatic depth and great mineral length.

Trévallon’s identity rests on the balance between Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Cabernet brings cassis, structure, cedar, graphite and ageing capacity; Syrah contributes blackberry, violet, pepper, black olive, garrigue and texture. In 2016, vintage ripeness reinforces fruit density and palate depth, while limestone freshness maintains tension, precision and balance.

Terroir expression: Alpilles, Provence, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, limestone, stones, cassis, blackberry, black plum, violet, black pepper, garrigue, cedar, graphite, black olive and mineral freshness.

Trévallon signature: Mediterranean depth, noble structure, limestone freshness, wild aromatics, silky texture, balance, character, longevity and long persistence.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep purple slowly evolving towards garnet, dense, bright and still very sustained. In magnum, evolution is generally slower, allowing the wine to preserve brilliance, visual freshness and depth for many years.

Nose: deep, expressive and very Mediterranean, with cassis, blackberry, black plum, black cherry, ripe black fruits, violet, black pepper, garrigue, thyme, bay leaf, cedar, graphite and liquorice. With aeration, nuances of fine leather, black olive, tapenade, cocoa, warm earth, light smoke, sweet spices, black mint and light truffle may appear.

Palate: broad, dense, fresh and elegantly structured, with deep black fruit carried by a clear limestone frame. Flavours of cassis, blackberry, plum, black cherry, pepper, garrigue, cedar, graphite, liquorice, black olive, fine leather and spices unfold with intensity, supported by ripe, fine and well-integrated tannins. The finish is long, saline, spicy and mineral, with an impression of character, nobility and great Mediterranean persistence.

Aromatic profile

Fruit: cassis, blackberry, black plum, black cherry, ripe black fruits, deep dark berries.

Spices and garrigue: black pepper, violet, thyme, bay leaf, garrigue, liquorice, black olive, tapenade, sweet spices.

Terroir and evolution: cedar, graphite, fine leather, cocoa, warm earth, light smoke, black mint, light truffle, polished tannins, saline freshness.

Overall impression: great red from the Alpilles, profound, distinguished and Mediterranean, with silky texture, limestone freshness and a long spicy, mineral finish.

Expression of the 2016 vintage

The 2016 vintage in southern France produced wines that are profound, balanced and remarkably precise, combining fruit ripeness, preserved freshness and harmonious tannins. In the Alpilles, this year allows Trévallon to express great fruit density, serious structure and mineral tension that supports the wine’s length.

Today, this Domaine de Trévallon 2016 in magnum remains young but can already impress through its depth, balance and aromatic brilliance after careful aeration. With time, it will gain complexity around notes of fine leather, tobacco, cocoa, cedar, truffle, dried garrigue, tapenade, melted spices and warm earth, while preserving mineral freshness and the depth of black fruit.

In summary: a deep, distinguished and highly Mediterranean Domaine de Trévallon 2016 in magnum, driven by the balance of the vintage, the limestone freshness of the Alpilles and the estate’s unique signature.

Dominant aromas: cassis, blackberry, black plum, black cherry, violet, black pepper, garrigue, thyme, bay leaf, cedar, graphite, liquorice, black olive, fine leather, light truffle and a long mineral finish.
