Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 — Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey
This Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023 from Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey embodies a masterful expression of Chardonnay from the hill of Corton. The wine combines the natural power of the Grand Cru, a firm mineral backbone and the precise energy that defines the finest white wines of the estate.
Terroir: Corton-Charlemagne, the limestone grandeur of the hill of Corton
Corton-Charlemagne is one of the great historic terroirs of the Côte de Beaune for Chardonnay. Its limestone soils, slope and exposure produce white wines of impressive stature, capable of combining depth, tension and long ageing potential.
In 2023, the wine shows generosity without losing precision. The ripeness of the vintage brings expressive substance, while the minerality of the Grand Cru preserves balance, freshness and length. These north-west-facing vines are among the last to be harvested, reinforcing aromatic maturity while maintaining fine energy.
Tasting notes
Appearance: luminous pale yellow, with discreet golden reflections, brilliant and crystalline.
Nose: precise and deep, with ripe citrus fruit, pear, pineapple, white flowers, fresh almond, roasted hazelnut, leafy herbs and a subtle smoky touch.
Palate: ample, upright and energetic, with dense substance, marked limestone tension and a long finish, gentle in texture, saline and very pure. A great age-worthy Chardonnay, still young, yet already impressive for its definition and balance.
Tim Atkin — Tasted in January 2025
Tim Atkin describes this Corton-Charlemagne 2023 as a thoroughly charming wine, made from purchased grapes grown on north-west-facing vines that are among the last to be harvested. His review highlights aromas of pineapple, roasted hazelnut and leafy herbs, as well as 50% new oak that is artfully integrated. He also underlines the length of the flavours, the wine’s ageing potential and its already very appealing character.
In summary: a powerful, precise and mineral Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2023, driven by the brightness of the vintage, the taut signature of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey and critical recognition that highlights both its immediate charm and its ageing potential.
