Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage 2016
This Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage 2016 embodies a refined, precise and gastronomic expression of vintage rosé Champagne. Made from 62% Pinot Noir and 38% Chardonnay, it combines the juicy flesh of Pinot Noir, the saline tension of Chardonnay and the luminous elegance that defines the house’s finest rosé cuvées.
The 2016 vintage gives here a Champagne that is fruity, vibrant and structured, marked by red berries, peach, blood orange, chalk and a long, saline finish. Already expressive, it retains fine energy and an attractive capacity for further development.
Terroir: Cumières, Chouilly and Roederer precision
The Louis Roederer Rosé Vintage comes from the house’s historic vineyards, notably Cumières for Pinot Noir and Chouilly for Chardonnay. Cumières, an early-ripening terroir in the Marne Valley, favours full phenolic maturity, essential for crafting an elegant and vinous rosé by maceration.
The cuvée is produced through a long, gentle infusion of Pinot Noir, to which Chardonnay juices are added in order to achieve a harmonious integration of the two grape varieties. Part of the wine is vinified in oak, bringing texture, depth and complexity while preserving the wine’s saline freshness and chalky precision.
Tasting notes
Appearance: luminous salmon-pink with red and coppery reflections, showing a fine, lively and elegant mousse.
Nose: expressive and very fresh, with wild strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant, vineyard peach, nectarine, blood orange, citrus zest, rose, wet chalk and a touch of fine brioche. With aeration, nuances of red apricot, biscuit and lightly candied fruit may appear.
Palate: juicy, precise and elegantly vinous, with fine bubbles, a silky texture and beautiful concentration of red fruit. Chalky freshness structures the wine, while the finish stretches long across citrus, salinity, a subtle noble bitterness and a distinctly Roederer mineral sensation.
95/100 — James Suckling
James Suckling praises the Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage 2016 for its beautiful aromatic brightness, marked by Mara des Bois strawberries, ripe nectarine, a fine and brilliant mousse, and lively acidity that gives the wine great vitality. He also highlights a long and elegant finish, carried by the freshness and energy of the vintage. The cuvée also receives 94/100 from Decanter and 93/100 from Wine Spectator.
Expression of the 2016 vintage
The 2016 vintage experienced a cool, wet spring followed by a warmer, drier summer, allowing the grapes to reach fine maturity. In this cuvée, Pinot Noir brings intense, juicy and silky fruit, while Chardonnay reinforces tension, precision and a saline finish. The result is an elegant, gastronomic and already highly seductive rosé, with fine potential to gain further complexity.
In summary: an elegant, precise and gastronomic Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage 2016, awarded 95 points by James Suckling, marked by red berries, peach, blood orange, chalk, fine bubbles and a persistent saline finish.
Food pairings: lightly seared salmon, red tuna, langoustines, lobster, roast poultry, pink duck breast, shellfish risotto, refined Japanese cuisine, creamy cheeses or lightly sweet red fruit desserts.
