Pierre Péters – Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs
A benchmark Blanc de Blancs Champagne, combining chalk-driven purity, crystalline tension, and refined mousse, sourced from Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs.
Terroir & Parcels
This cuvée is sourced exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, one of Champagne’s most prestigious terroirs for Chardonnay. The soils are composed of deep Campanian chalk covered by a thin layer of clay and limestone scree, providing exceptional drainage and acting as a natural water reservoir. This chalk substratum imparts the wine’s hallmark saline minerality, finesse, and remarkable aging potential.
The blend typically includes fruit from multiple Mesnil parcels such as Les Chétillons, Le Mont Aimé, Les Hautes Mottes, and surrounding lieux-dits, combining old-vine depth with the precision of younger plantings. South- and southeast-facing slopes ensure optimal ripening while preserving vibrant acidity.
Pierre Péters employs a meticulous approach: hand harvesting, gentle pressing, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and aging on lees in stainless steel tanks and bottle. A significant proportion of perpetual reserve wines (réserve perpétuelle) is incorporated, adding complexity, textural depth, and continuity of house style. Dosage remains low, preserving the terroir’s pure expression.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
Elegant and precise, with aromas of lemon zest, green apple, and white peach, layered with white flowers, crushed chalk, almond, and subtle brioche from lees aging.
Palate:
Vibrant and linear, driven by a fine, persistent mousse and a chalky saline backbone. Flavors of citrus, orchard fruits, and fresh hazelnut unfold over a sleek texture, balanced by incisive acidity and remarkable precision.
Finish:
Long, pure, and mouthwatering, marked by oyster-shell salinity, citrus zest, and a refined mineral persistence. A gastronomic Champagne with both immediate charm and strong aging potential.
