Montevetrano 2011

Montevetrano 2011 expresses a singular vision of great Southern Italian reds, where Bordeaux-inspired precision meets the Mediterranean identity of Campania. Shaped by a luminous terroir and a distinctive blend, this vintage stands out for its depth, freshness and harmonious complexity.

Overview

Montevetrano is produced in San Cipriano Picentino, a few kilometers from Salerno, in a landscape protected by the Picentini Mountains and influenced by the nearby sea. Founded by Silvia Imparato with the support of Riccardo Cotarella, the estate has become one of Southern Italy’s benchmark wineries thanks to its demanding approach, strong sense of place and commitment to age-worthy wines of character.

The vineyard, covering around 5 hectares, is planted on medium-textured soils with limestone fragments, on southwest-facing slopes. This setting gives the wine generous ripeness while preserving natural freshness, supported by maritime influence and the shelter of the surrounding hills. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Aglianico and Merlot creates a distinctive signature in which structure, aromatic intensity and Mediterranean tension are balanced with elegance.

The 2011 vintage highlights Montevetrano’s generous and sun-filled personality without sacrificing the poise and depth for which the wine is renowned. The result is a refined and accomplished cuvée, expressive already, yet still capable of showing further complexity with time.

Tasting Notes

Nose:
The bouquet opens with notes of ripe dark fruits, blackberry, plum and blackcurrant, enriched by nuances of warm earth, spice, tobacco and fine oak. With aeration, the wine gains further depth, revealing a balsamic touch and a distinctly Mediterranean profile.

Palate:
The attack is broad and velvety, carried by a dense yet perfectly enveloped texture. The mid-palate combines richness of fruit, controlled structure and underlying freshness, in a subtle balance between the roundness of Merlot, the backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon and the energy of Aglianico.

Finish:
Long, savory and persistent, the finish extends on notes of dark fruits, cocoa, licorice and gentle spices. It leaves an impression of depth, restrained warmth and Mediterranean elegance.
