Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2012 — Domaine des Comtes Lafon
This Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2012 from Domaine des Comtes Lafon expresses one of the noblest, deepest and most complete climats of Volnay. From an emblematic Côte de Beaune domaine, celebrated for the precision of its élevage and the purity of its wines, it offers a Pinot Noir of great elegance, at once floral, silky and structured: red cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, plum, rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice, fresh earth, light forest floor and a long mineral finish.
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is one of the great references of the Côte de Beaune, recognised worldwide for its Meursaults, but also a producer of red wines of great finesse and remarkable terroir depth. The Champans climat often gives Volnay wines that are more structured, deeper and fleshier than the village’s most ethereal expressions, while preserving the grace and silky touch that define the appellation. The 2012 vintage brings concentration, energy, tension and fine ageing potential.
A Volnay Premier Cru of great class, deep without heaviness, delicate without fragility and driven by perfectly integrated structure. The 2012 combines ripe red fruits, flowers, fine spices, liquorice, fresh earth and minerality, with a silky, fresh, dense and persistent palate. It is a wine of charm, precision and ageing potential, faithful to the elegance of Volnay and the rigour of Domaine des Comtes Lafon.
Terroir: Champans, depth and sensuality in Volnay
The Champans climat is among the most renowned Premier Crus of Volnay. Located on a favourable slope, it gives wines that are broad, perfumed and structured, capable of combining Volnay’s traditional finesse with fleshier depth. It is a terroir that offers Pinot Noir an elegant, floral, earthy and persistent expression.
The clay-limestone soils of Champans bring the wine a silky texture, fine tannins, good tension and a mineral finish. At Comtes Lafon, this terroir translates into a pure and precise expression: ripe red fruits, floral notes, fine spices, fresh earth, liquorice and minerality. In 2012, the concentration of the vintage reinforces density and structure without erasing the natural grace of the climat.
Terroir expression: Pinot Noir, Volnay, Champans, Côte de Beaune, clay, limestone, red cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, rose, violet, fine spices, fresh earth and persistent minerality.

Expression of the 2012 vintage
The 2012 vintage in Burgundy produced red wines that are concentrated, intense and structured, often from low yields. In Volnay, this concentration combines with the natural finesse of the appellation to give wines that are elegant, deep and long-lived. In Champans, the 2012 stands out for its density, ripe red fruit, silky texture and persistent mineral finish.
Today, this Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2012 is entering an interesting phase, between structured youth and the first signs of tertiary complexity. It can already show expressiveness after measured aeration, but will gain further nuance with time: forest floor, fine leather, melted spices, black tea, fresh earth, light truffle and mineral notes should gradually join the purity of the red fruit.
In summary: a deep, elegant and silky Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2012, driven by the concentration of the vintage, the nobility of the climat and the refined signature of Domaine des Comtes Lafon.
Dominant aromas: red cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, plum, rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice, fresh earth, light forest floor, fine leather and a long mineral finish.
