Domaine des Bosquets – Gigondas
A leading estate in Gigondas: old vines, high-altitude terroirs and pure Grenache expression
The Estate
Nestled at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, Domaine des Bosquets stands among the most prestigious producers of Gigondas. This historic estate, with written records dating back to the 14th century, now spans 26 to 30 hectares of organically farmed vineyards. Under the guidance of the Bréchet family, it has become one of the benchmark estates of the Southern Rhône, renowned for its refined parcel-by-parcel approach and the depth and purity of its wines.
Terroir & Vineyard
The vineyard stretches across a mosaic of high-altitude terroirs—between 200 and 400 metres—at the heart of Gigondas. The soils are highly diverse, ranging from sandy and red clay to marl and limestone scree, offering an exceptional range of expressions. With exposures predominantly facing east and south-east, the parcels benefit from cool nights and steady winds that preserve tension and freshness. The plantings are dominated by Grenache noir, complemented by Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Many of the plots are home to old vines—over fifty years of age—producing naturally low yields and remarkable concentration.
Philosophy & Viticulture
The estate embraces a precision-driven philosophy with a tight focus on parcel individuality and the vitality of the soils. The vineyards are organically certified and managed with meticulous soil work, controlled cover cropping and thoughtful interventions. Harvesting is entirely manual, parcel by parcel, allowing each site to be picked at optimal ripeness. All grapes undergo a rigorous triage to ensure only perfectly healthy clusters are vinified.
Winemaking & Style
In the cellar, the parcel-led approach continues: every terroir is vinified separately in vessels adapted to its profile. The proportion of whole clusters varies according to each vintage and site, preserving delicacy of tannin and structural verticality. Macerations are gentle and extended, favouring infusion over extraction. Ageing lasts 12 to 18 months, in a combination of vats and large oak, with restrained use of new barrels to refine texture without overshadowing terroir. The resulting wines combine Southern Rhône power with high-altitude freshness: ripe red and black fruit, spice, hints of garrigue and warm stone, carried by silky tannins and a distinctive saline mineral line.
Style & Ageing Potential
Domaine des Bosquets produces deep, precise and contemporary Gigondas. The palate is dense yet never heavy, driven by vibrant energy and lifted freshness. Many wines are enjoyable young with decanting, but the finest parcels show a 10–20 year ageing potential, revealing layers of truffle, dried herbs and balsamic nuance over time.
