Domaine Guiberteau

Rooted on the prestigious Brézé hillside, Domaine Guiberteau has established itself as one of the most sought-after names in the Loire Valley. Its Chenin Blanc wines are renowned for their crystalline precision, saline tension, and exceptional aging capacity. The reds, marked by striking purity, offer a refined and exacting interpretation of Loire Cabernet Franc.

Terroir

The estate is centered on the Brézé hillside, an emblematic limestone terroir made up of sandy-clay soils resting on Turonian tuffeau. This unique geology imparts a saline minerality and rare verticality to the wines. Additional parcels in Épieds, Montreuil-Bellay, Saint-Just-sur-Dive, and Berrie contribute complementary nuances to the range.

Viticulture & Winemaking

Domaine Guiberteau is farmed under certified organic agriculture. Vineyard practices respect soil health through cover crops, light ploughing, hand harvesting, and optimal ripeness management. For the whites, whole-cluster pressing, natural fermentations, blocked malolactic, and long aging on lees in French oak are the rule. The Cabernet Franc for the reds is fully destemmed and vinified with great precision for a pure, linear, and unadorned style.

Key Cuvées

White Wines

  • Saumur Blanc – elegant entry-level, sourced from young Brézé vines and neighboring plots.
  • Clos de Guichaux – monopole in Épieds, on soft limestone, offering a straight, vibrant style.
  • Clos des Carmes – mid-slope Brézé site producing intense, saline wines.
  • Brézé – the iconic cuvée from old vines (1933 & 1952), aged long in oak for remarkable depth.
  • Le Bourg – a rare, confidential parcel selection.

Red Wines

  • Saumur Rouge – pure, structured Cabernet Franc.
  • Les Chapaudaises – monopole in Épieds.
  • Les Arboises – top Brézé parcel with impressive aging potential.
  • Les Moulins – “Chai de la Dive” project: approachable wines from young vines and selected partners.

House Style

The whites are tense, elegant, and deeply marked by limestone. Oak is used only as a textural support, never dominating the wine. Precision and minerality define the estate’s signature. The reds express a pure, juicy, and linear Cabernet Franc with graceful aging potential.

Key People

The estate is led by Romain Guiberteau, a leading figure of the new Loire generation. His precision and vision have propelled the domaine to the top tier of Saumur’s benchmarks, while maintaining a strong and singular identity.

Provenance & Cellaring

All bottles come directly from the estate and are stored in optimal temperature and humidity conditions, ensuring the perfect integrity of the wines.
