Azienda Agricola Valentini — The silent myth of great Abruzzo wine

Located in Loreto Aprutino, in Abruzzo, Azienda Agricola Valentini occupies a singular place in Italian wine. Historic, discreet and almost legendary, the estate produces wines in limited quantities, prized for their depth, longevity and unmistakably individual character.

The Valentini family works primarily with two grape varieties: Trebbiano and Montepulciano. From this simple foundation come three cult wines: Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo. The Trebbiano in particular is widely regarded as one of Italy’s greatest white wines, capable of ageing for several decades.

The spirit of the estate

Valentini embodies a rare vision of wine: few cuvées, few explanations, severe selection and absolute trust in time. The wines do not seek immediate seduction or standardised regularity; they express land, vintage and family tradition with almost timeless depth.

History: a family, a place and legendary discretion

The Valentini family has long been established in Loreto Aprutino, on a broad agricultural estate where vines coexist with other crops. The modern image of the estate owes much to Edoardo Valentini, a major yet deliberately discreet figure in Italian wine, whose work elevated Abruzzo wines to the level of great collectible bottles.

Today, family continuity preserves this unique identity: limited production, strict selection of lots and a refusal of any overly technical or demonstrative approach. Valentini remains an estate of patience, silence and confidence in ageing.

Terroir: Loreto Aprutino, between the Adriatic and the Apennines

The estate lies in the hills of Loreto Aprutino, between the influence of the Adriatic Sea and the cooler relief of the Apennines. This position brings light, diurnal range and natural ventilation, allowing Trebbiano and Montepulciano to ripen slowly while retaining tension, depth and balance.

Expression of place: Abruzzo, Loreto Aprutino, Trebbiano, Montepulciano, hillsides, Adriatic influence, Apennines, slow ripening, freshness, salinity and great longevity.

Valentini signature: rare, artisanal and profound wines, marked by inner energy, singular texture and exceptional ageing capacity.

Viticulture and winemaking: an artisanal approach without formula

At Valentini, the work remains deliberately empirical and deeply artisanal. Selections are strict, interventions limited, élevage patient and releases rare. The estate does not fit neatly into modern winemaking categories: its identity rests instead on observation, family experience and an almost inflexible demand for quality.

Style of the wines

Valentini wines are known for their restrained intensity, complexity and slow evolution. The Trebbiano combines citrus, hay, almond, dried herbs, wax, warm stone and, with age, subtle hydrocarbon nuances. The Montepulciano offers dark fruit, spice, tannic depth and serious structure, while the Cerasuolo stands out for its deep colour, flesh and gastronomic energy.

Emblematic cuvées

Trebbiano d’Abruzzo: a mythical Italian white wine, deep, saline, complex and capable of very long ageing.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo: a rare and powerful red, structured, dark and built for cellaring.

Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo: an intense Montepulciano rosé, vinous, gastronomic and full of personality.

Cellaring and food pairings

Great Valentini bottles can evolve for 15 to 30 years, sometimes longer for Trebbiano and Montepulciano. Trebbiano pairs beautifully with noble fish, poultry, risotto, white truffle, aged Comté and refined Italian cuisine; Montepulciano suits roast meats, lamb, game, braised dishes and mature cheeses.
