Domaine Armand Rousseau — Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

Founded in 1909 • 15 ha • Icon of Gevrey-Chambertin • Legendary Pinot Noir • Family estate over four generations

A Legend Among Burgundy Grands Crus

Founded in 1909 in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most revered names. At the age of 25, Armand Rousseau acquired his first prestigious parcels — Charmes-Chambertin, Chambertin, and Clos de la Roche — and became, in the 1930s, a pioneer of estate bottling. Visionary, he was among the first to export Burgundy wines to the United States after Prohibition, laying the foundation for a global reputation.

Exceptional Terroirs at the Heart of Gevrey-Chambertin

  • Surface: ~15 ha
  • Grands Crus (8.5 ha): Chambertin, Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze, Ruchottes-Chambertin (Clos des Ruchottes), Mazis-Chambertin, Clos de la Roche
  • Premiers Crus (4 ha): Clos Saint-Jacques, Lavaux Saint-Jacques
  • Village (2–3 ha): Gevrey-Chambertin
  • Complex limestone and marl soils give the wines depth, tension, and a faithful expression of these historic climats.

Viticulture & Winemaking Philosophy

  • Average vine age: 40–45 years
  • Traditional vineyard work: manual tilling, meticulous debudding, hand harvesting
  • Partial whole-cluster fermentation (~10%), gentle pressing, controlled-temperature cuvaison
  • Aging in oak barrels with 10–20% new oak on Grands Crus
  • Minimal intervention to reveal the purest expression of each climat

A Distinctive Style: Elegance, Power & Longevity

  • 100% Pinot Noir
  • Silky tannic structure and vibrant acidity
  • Deep red and black fruit aromas with floral and spicy notes
  • Refined minerality and remarkable aging potential
  • Globally sought-after wines combining density and finesse

A Family Legacy

Since its founding by Armand Rousseau, the estate has been guided by a family of visionaries. Charles Rousseau expanded the domaine and built its international reputation. Today, Éric Rousseau and Cyrielle Rousseau carry on the tradition with the same dedication to terroir and excellence.
