Domaine d’Eugénie – A renaissance on legendary Burgundy land
Estate Presentation
Located in Vosne-Romanée at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Domaine d’Eugénie embodies the encounter between Burgundian heritage and contemporary excellence. Founded in 2006 by François Pinault — also owner of Château Latour in Pauillac — the estate was born from the acquisition of the historic vineyards of Domaine René Engel, a legendary name in Vosne-Romanée. The name “Eugénie” pays tribute to François Pinault’s grandmother, symbolizing family heritage and a deep connection to land and wine.
An exceptional terroir in the heart of Vosne-Romanée
The vineyard spans about 6.5 hectares of Pinot Noir across Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, including the Grands Crus Échezeaux, Grands-Échezeaux, and Clos Vougeot, as well as the Premiers Crus Aux Brûlées and Clos d’Eugénie, and the Vosne-Romanée Village. The soils — rich in limestone, marl, and fine clay — offer rare geological diversity. Each plot is vinified separately to reveal the depth and nuance of its unique climat.
The estate pays meticulous attention to grape selection, phenolic maturity, and tannin structure — key elements ensuring both the elegance and longevity of its wines.
Organic and biodynamic viticulture
The philosophy of Domaine d’Eugénie rests on absolute respect for living ecosystems and a deep understanding of the vineyard’s natural balance. Since 2009, the plots of Vosne-Romanée and Clos d’Eugénie have been farmed biodynamically, followed by Échezeaux in 2010, and full organic conversion of the entire estate in 2011. Ecocert certification began in 2017, with vintages from 2020 officially certified organic.
The practices exclude all chemical herbicides, favor organic fertilization, and encourage soil microbial life through gentle plowing and natural preparations (nettle, horsetail, chamomile). The goal: to produce grapes of impeccable purity — true reflections of their terroir.
Tailored winemaking and precise ageing
Under the technical direction of Michel Mallard, the winery was completely redesigned in 2009 to meet the standards of Burgundy’s finest domaines. The cellar features thermoregulated wooden vats enabling precise, parcel-based vinification. Manual harvesting is followed by careful sorting and a cold pre-fermentation maceration to enhance aroma and the natural color of Pinot Noir.
Fermentations occur spontaneously, with gentle extractions that capture only the purest essence of the fruit. Ageing lasts 12 to 18 months in Burgundy barrels, with a variable proportion of new oak depending on the cuvée, striking a perfect balance between power and finesse.
Signature style: purity, precision and elegance
The wines of Domaine d’Eugénie stand out for their aromatic purity, textural finesse, and elegant structure. Pinot Noir unfolds here with subtlety — red fruits, violet, fine spices, and forest floor nuances supported by silky, persistent tannins.
The estate’s style combines restrained intensity, luminous fruit, and remarkable precision — positioning these wines among the most refined interpretations of Vosne-Romanée.
