MAISON GOSSET — AŸ

The oldest Champagne house (1584) and an enduring quest for purity

Founded in 1584 by Pierre Gosset in the historic village of Aÿ, Maison Gosset is one of Champagne’s great heritage houses. With more than four centuries of history, it has preserved a unique style built on aromatic purity, fruit integrity and remarkable tension. Since 1994, the house has been guided by the Cointreau family, under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Cointreau, together with cellar master Odilon de Varine, the guardian of an exacting technical tradition. Together, they continue crafting long-lived Champagnes of depth, precision and exemplary structure.

Terroirs & Origin of the Wines

Gosset sources its grapes exclusively from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, ensuring exceptional aromatic precision:

  • Aÿ (Grande Vallée de la Marne) — historic Pinot Noir terroir: vinosity, structure and amplitude,
  • Montagne de Reims — deep, powerful Pinots: intensity, texture and tension,
  • Côte des Blancs — chalk-driven Chardonnay: finesse, verticality, mineral purity.

This mosaic of prestigious crus shapes wines with clarity, length and a distinctive house identity.

Philosophy & Winemaking

Gosset’s signature rests on purity and precision, shaped by several fundamental technical choices:

  • no malolactic fermentation, preserving freshness, tension and longevity,
  • extended ageing on lees for texture, depth and complexity,
  • measured use of oak to support the aromatic structure,
  • delicate prise de mousse yielding a fine, incisive bubble,
  • assemblies built on rigorous vineyard selection, always respecting fruit integrity.

This rare, uncompromising stylistic consistency gives the wines a vertical, long-lasting aromatic profile and outstanding ageability.

Wine Style

  • vibrant, linear and precise structure,
  • fine, incisive effervescence,
  • marked minerality, enhanced by the absence of malo,
  • silky texture with no heaviness,
  • pure, expressive aromatics,
  • exceptional length, emblematic of long-ageing houses.

These are Champagnes of tension, clarity and longevity, built for gastronomy and time.
