Taylor’s Port — The Historical Benchmark of Port Wine
Founded in 1692, Taylor’s is one of the oldest and most prestigious Port houses. Renowned worldwide for its long-lived Vintage Ports and remarkably complex Tawnies, Taylor’s embodies three centuries of excellence, tradition, and innovation. Its “A” classified vineyards — including the legendary Quinta de Vargellas — are among the finest terroirs in the Douro Valley.
Heritage & People
Taylor’s takes its name from founder Job Bearsley (1692), followed by the Fladgate family and Joseph Yeatman, who formed Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman in 1838. Today, the house belongs to The Fladgate Partnership, led by Adrian Bridge. This independent, family-run structure remains a pillar of the global Port market through its unwavering commitment to quality, sustainability, and world-class wine tourism.
Vineyards & Quintas
Taylor’s distinctive style is based on three historic quintas in the Douro Superior and the Pinhão Valley:
- Quinta de Vargellas — elegance, violet notes, pure fruit, fine structure.
- Quinta de Terra Feita — power, density, generous tannins.
- Quinta do Junco — balance and aromatic complexity.
Classified as “A” grade, these properties form the backbone of Taylor’s Vintage Ports, famed for their exceptional ageing potential.
Viticulture & Winemaking
Taylor’s follows a precision viticulture approach, rooted in environmental respect:
- Strict grape selection from the best schist terrace parcels
- Traditional foot treading in granite lagares
- Long ageing in the historic cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia
- Meticulous ripeness control to preserve freshness and balance
This uncompromising philosophy yields Ports that combine structure and power with remarkable elegance.
Signature Cuvées
- Vintage Port — the flagship of Taylor’s, produced only in exceptional years. A legendary long-ageing wine, intense and refined. Recent declarations: 2016, 2017, 2018.

Wine Style
- Vintage: deep colour, violet floral notes, pure black fruit, precise tannins, vertical structure, long mineral finish.
- Aged Tawnies: silky texture, dried fruit, caramel, sweet spice, candied citrus.
- LBV: accessible, rich, ready to drink but true to the house’s structure.
