Taylor’s Port — The Historical Benchmark of Port Wine

Founded in 1692, Taylor’s is one of the oldest and most prestigious Port houses. Renowned worldwide for its long-lived Vintage Ports and remarkably complex Tawnies, Taylor’s embodies three centuries of excellence, tradition, and innovation. Its “A” classified vineyards — including the legendary Quinta de Vargellas — are among the finest terroirs in the Douro Valley.

Heritage & People

Taylor’s takes its name from founder Job Bearsley (1692), followed by the Fladgate family and Joseph Yeatman, who formed Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman in 1838. Today, the house belongs to The Fladgate Partnership, led by Adrian Bridge. This independent, family-run structure remains a pillar of the global Port market through its unwavering commitment to quality, sustainability, and world-class wine tourism.

Vineyards & Quintas

Taylor’s distinctive style is based on three historic quintas in the Douro Superior and the Pinhão Valley:

  • Quinta de Vargellas — elegance, violet notes, pure fruit, fine structure.
  • Quinta de Terra Feita — power, density, generous tannins.
  • Quinta do Junco — balance and aromatic complexity.

Classified as “A” grade, these properties form the backbone of Taylor’s Vintage Ports, famed for their exceptional ageing potential.

Viticulture & Winemaking

Taylor’s follows a precision viticulture approach, rooted in environmental respect:

  • Strict grape selection from the best schist terrace parcels
  • Traditional foot treading in granite lagares
  • Long ageing in the historic cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia
  • Meticulous ripeness control to preserve freshness and balance

This uncompromising philosophy yields Ports that combine structure and power with remarkable elegance.

Signature Cuvées

  • Vintage Port — the flagship of Taylor’s, produced only in exceptional years. A legendary long-ageing wine, intense and refined. Recent declarations: 2016, 2017, 2018.
  • Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) — a category invented by Taylor’s in 1970. Aged 4–6 years in cask and ready to drink upon release.
  • Aged Tawny Ports — aged for 10, 20, 30 and 40 years, offering a silky, time-layered complexity.
  • Single Harvest (Colheita) — vintage-dated Tawnies matured for decades. Exceptional examples: 1965, 1969, 1970, 1863.
  • Golden Age 50 Year Old Tawny — a rare, long-aged Tawny showcasing Taylor’s mastery of this style.
  • White Ports — including Chip Dry, the pioneering dry white Port, ideal as an aperitif.

Wine Style

  • Vintage: deep colour, violet floral notes, pure black fruit, precise tannins, vertical structure, long mineral finish.
  • Aged Tawnies: silky texture, dried fruit, caramel, sweet spice, candied citrus.
  • LBV: accessible, rich, ready to drink but true to the house’s structure.
  • White Ports: fresh, vibrant, delicately bitter.

Taylor’s identity is built on a unique balance between power and finesse, earning the house enduring international acclaim.
