Domaine Albert Boxler – Niedermorschwihr (Alsace)
Estate Presentation
Located in Niedermorschwihr, overlooking the Turckheim Valley, Domaine Albert Boxler has represented, for several generations, the very pinnacle of Alsatian white wine excellence. The family’s roots go back to the 17th century, but it was Albert Boxler, after returning from the war in 1945, who began bottling the wines at the estate. Today, his grandson Jean Boxler continues this legacy with exceptional precision and sensitivity, crafting some of the most sought-after wines in Alsace.
A Granite Terroir Carved by the Slope
The estate covers around 14 hectares, most of which lie on the legendary Grand Cru Sommerberg — a spectacular hillside with slopes reaching 45° — as well as on the Brand in Turckheim. The vines, planted between 220 and 450 meters above sea level, are rooted in poor granitic soils that give the wines their mineral tension and crystalline brilliance. The viticulture is organic (uncertified), carried out without herbicides or chemical fertilizers, in full respect of biodiversity.
- Sommerberg "E" (Eckberg) – the highest, most taut section.
- Sommerberg "D" (Dudenstein) – near Katzenthal, deeper and broader in texture.
- Sommerberg "JV" – young vines, offering a more approachable expression.
This meticulous parcel-based approach reveals the full diversity and nuance of Alsace’s granite.
Philosophy & Winemaking
Jean Boxler practices an artisanal, patient viticulture in which every detail matters. Harvesting is done by hand, with rigorous sorting in the vineyard, and spontaneous fermentations occur slowly — sometimes over several months — using only indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged in large old foudres, with no new oak, and without systematic fining or filtration. Sulphur is used sparingly, only to ensure the wine’s natural stability.
Each cuvée faithfully reflects its vintage and parcel, free from artifice or standardization.
Wine Style
Boxler’s wines are defined by their purity, tension, and vertical precision. They are dry, chiselled, and precise, marked by noble acidity and exceptional aromatic depth.
The Rieslings express the quintessence of granite — linear, saline, and long. The Pinot Gris combine generosity and balance, while the Gewurztraminers retain surprising finesse and lightness. Each wine achieves a perfect harmony between power, clarity, and mineral energy.
