Château Gruaud Larose – Saint-Julien
A legendary Second Growth Classified Cru — noble, structured, and intensely expressive.
A Royal Second Growth with Timeless Aura
Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, Château Gruaud Larose stands as one of the Médoc’s legendary names. Its motto — “Le vin des rois, le roi des vins” — encapsulates the estate’s noble ambition and singular identity. Founded in the 18th century by Abbé Gruaud, the property has been shaped by illustrious families, including the Cordiers, before being acquired in 1997 by the Groupe Taillan (Merlaut family), also owners of Château Chasse-Spleen and Château Haut-Bages Libéral.
An Exceptional Single-Block Terroir
The 82-hectare vineyard surrounds the château in a single block, perched on one of the highest gravel plateaus of Saint-Julien. This homogeneous terroir provides exceptional natural drainage and encourages deep root systems, ensuring even ripening and intense aromatic expression.

| Grape varieties | 57% Cabernet Sauvignon · 30% Merlot · 7% Cabernet Franc · 4% Petit Verdot · 2% Malbec |

Traditional and Precise Winemaking
Harvesting is carried out by hand, and each plot is vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats to preserve terroir identity. Ageing lasts 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, with 60 to 80% new wood depending on the vintage. This approach enhances structure while preserving the fruit’s energy — resulting in deeply Médocain wines that are both serious and noble.
Style & Signature
- Nose: ripe black fruits, cedar, forest floor, blond tobacco, fine spices.
- Palate: firm but elegant tannic frame, velvety texture, harmonious balance.
- Finish: long, deep and noble.
These are wines built for long ageing, capable of evolving gracefully for several decades.
