Based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, the house built its legend on a radical idea: producing only a vintage Blanc de Blancs from Chardonnay grown in a single Grand Cru village.

History: the vision of Eugène-Aimé Salon

Eugène-Aimé Salon imagined a Champagne that ran against the habits of its time: not a blend of villages, grape varieties and years, but a wine built around a single origin. He chose Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, whose chalk soils and natural freshness give Chardonnay exceptional tension and ageing capacity.

Now owned by the Laurent-Perrier group, Salon remains independent in spirit, closely linked to its neighbour Delamotte and to its historic home in Le Mesnil. Its extreme rarity, vintage discipline and uncompromising style make it one of the most singular names in fine wine.

Terroir: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the chalk heart of the Côte des Blancs

Salon comes exclusively from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, a Grand Cru village in the Côte des Blancs. The cuvée draws on the historic Jardin de Salon, a one-hectare parcel, completed by a small selection of plots within the village. The chalk soils give the wine its vertical line, saline energy and chiselled texture, defining the greatest age-worthy Blancs de Blancs.

Winemaking and ageing: one cuvée, time as an ally

Salon produces no non-vintage cuvée and no blend with Pinot Noir or Meunier. Each release is based on a strict selection of Chardonnay from Le Mesnil, followed by very long ageing on lees, often around ten years before release. This slow maturation gives the wine its delicate mousse, aromatic depth and singular ability to evolve over decades.
