In Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Champagne Salon represents the rarest and most radical expression of Blanc de Blancs Champagne. One cuvée, one grape variety, one Grand Cru village and only the finest vintages: this uncompromising philosophy gives birth to crystalline, saline and profoundly age-worthy Champagnes.
Champagne Salon — The ultimate Blanc de Blancs icon of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger
Founded by Eugène-Aimé Salon in the early 20th century, Champagne Salon occupies a unique place in the world of Champagne. Based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, the house built its legend on a radical idea: producing only a vintage Blanc de Blancs from Chardonnay grown in a single Grand Cru village.
One grape variety, one cru, one cuvée and only the years deemed worthy of release: this rare philosophy has made Salon one of the most sought-after Champagnes in the world. Under the direction of Didier Depond, the house preserves a confidential production and an identity of almost monastic purity.
Salon expresses Champagne in its most distilled form: Mesnil Chardonnay, chalk, time and patience. Nothing is designed for immediate seduction; everything is shaped to reveal crystalline tension, saline depth and extraordinary longevity.
History: the vision of Eugène-Aimé Salon
Eugène-Aimé Salon imagined a Champagne that ran against the habits of its time: not a blend of villages, grape varieties and years, but a wine built around a single origin. He chose Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, whose chalk soils and natural freshness give Chardonnay exceptional tension and ageing capacity.
Now owned by the Laurent-Perrier group, Salon remains independent in spirit, closely linked to its neighbour Delamotte and to its historic home in Le Mesnil. Its extreme rarity, vintage discipline and uncompromising style make it one of the most singular names in fine wine.
Terroir: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the chalk heart of the Côte des Blancs
Salon comes exclusively from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, a Grand Cru village in the Côte des Blancs. The cuvée draws on the historic Jardin de Salon, a one-hectare parcel, completed by a small selection of plots within the village. The chalk soils give the wine its vertical line, saline energy and chiselled texture, defining the greatest age-worthy Blancs de Blancs.
Expression of place: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Côte des Blancs, Grand Cru, Chardonnay, chalk, citrus, white flowers, salinity, tension and exceptional persistence.
Salon signature: rare, pure and crystalline vintage Champagne, built on Chardonnay precision, long lees ageing and the chalky depth of Le Mesnil.
Winemaking and ageing: one cuvée, time as an ally
Salon produces no non-vintage cuvée and no blend with Pinot Noir or Meunier. Each release is based on a strict selection of Chardonnay from Le Mesnil, followed by very long ageing on lees, often around ten years before release. This slow maturation gives the wine its delicate mousse, aromatic depth and singular ability to evolve over decades.
Style of the wine
Champagne Salon is defined by exceptional aromatic purity: lemon, citrus zest, white flowers, chalk, wet stone, almond, iodine and a fine brioche nuance with age. The palate is straight, saline and precise, carried by a delicate mousse, chiselled texture and a remarkably long finish.
Emblematic cuvée
Salon Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Grand Cru: the house’s only cuvée, made exclusively from Chardonnay, only in vintage years, and entirely from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. A Champagne of purity, tension and patience, among the rarest and most coveted in the world.
Cellaring and food pairings
Salon can evolve for 20 to 40 years, sometimes longer depending on the vintage. It pairs with the most refined dishes: oysters, caviar, lobster, turbot, scallops, noble poultry, parmesan risotto, aged Comté and highly precise Japanese cuisine.
