Château Lascombes – 2nd Grand Cru Classé of Margaux

Sculpted power and refined elegance – the signature of a major Margaux terroir

Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, Château Lascombes holds a distinctive place in the Margaux landscape. Owned by the Groupe Taillan, the estate has been experiencing a true renaissance led by a highly coherent management team: Florence Le Glatin (General Manager), Frédéric Spies (Technical Director) and consulting oenologist Nicolas Audebert.

Their shared ambition is clear: to elevate a historic terroir through a distinctly modern style, where power, freshness and refined tannins are orchestrated in remarkably harmonious balance.

Terroir & Vineyard – A large-scale mosaic at the heart of Margaux

With nearly 120 hectares under vine, Château Lascombes is one of the largest classified growths in Margaux. Its greatness lies in a rare geological diversity:

  • Deep gravel – excellent drainage, purity of fruit and aromatic precision.
  • Clay-limestone soils – flesh, density and natural freshness.
  • Well-exposed gravelly rises – emblematic of the Left Bank’s finest sites.

The varietal mix reflects Médoc tradition at a very high level:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon (50–60%) – backbone, structure, relief.
  • Merlot (35–45%) – silkiness, charm and mid-palate amplitude.
  • Petit Verdot (~5%) – spice, depth of colour and tension.

This mosaic of soils allows for an extremely precise blend, faithful to the aristocratic identity of Margaux.

Precision Viticulture – Observation, control and sustainability

Vineyard work at Lascombes follows a demanding, long-term vision:

  • meticulous soil management and controlled cover cropping,
  • harvesting at optimal ripeness for each parcel,
  • rigorous sorting plot by plot,
  • structured environmental and agro-ecological monitoring,
  • a constant focus on preserving biodiversity.

Every micro-terroir is vinified separately, ensuring a detailed understanding of each component and allowing for highly accurate blending.

Winemaking & Ageing – Mastery in the service of purity

The winery, designed for precision, enables finely tuned extraction:

  • fermentations in temperature-controlled stainless steel and wooden vats,
  • cuvaison adapted to the nature of each parcel and each vintage,
  • a subtle combination of pump-overs, punch-downs and gentle macerations.

Ageing, a key phase of the Lascombes signature, typically lasts 16 to 20 months in French oak barrels, with around 60% new oak. The wood is carefully integrated, always at the service of fruit expression and freshness rather than dominance.

The result is a wine with silky yet present tannins, a straight, well-defined structure, an ample, polished texture, flawlessly integrated oak and a long, vibrant, finely etched finish.

House Style – Controlled modernity, aromatic depth and Margaux elegance

The wines of Château Lascombes combine:

  • Médoc power and a solid structural core,
  • deep aromatics of blackcurrant, blackberry, violet, cedar and graphite,
  • a velvety, caressing mouthfeel,
  • freshness preserved from start to finish,
  • a long, persistent, finely floral finish.

In top vintages, this architecture gains in complexity, intensity and ageing potential, positioning Lascombes among the most seductive and consistent Second Growths of Margaux.
