Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2010 – Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard
A legendary Grand Cru: depth, mineral tension, and majestic length
Terroir
Located between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is rooted in rich clay-limestone soils that combine depth with excellent drainage, producing wines of both power and precision. The 2010 vintage, marked by a cooler and later growing season, delivered outstanding aromatic clarity and a vibrant, structuring acidity, ideal for expressing the full finesse of Chardonnay and ensuring long ageing potential.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
A complex aromatic profile of preserved lemon, pear, and white peach, enhanced by notes of white flowers, hazelnut, brioche, and a subtle buttery touch, underpinned by a distinct chalky minerality.
Palate & Finish:
The palate is full-bodied yet beautifully focused, with a silky texture and a pronounced limestone-driven minerality that gives the wine remarkable drive. The balance between richness (depth, refined texture) and freshness (energy, salinity) is exemplary. The very long, persistent finish unfolds with notes of citrus, white-fleshed fruit, hazelnut, and an elegant saline signature. A great gastronomic white wine, built for long-term cellaring.
