Château de Fosse-Sèche — The Mineral Tension and Purity of Anjou

Nestled on the heights of Anjou, Château de Fosse-Sèche is one of the most distinctive and sought-after estates in the Loire Valley. A family-run domaine guided by rare exacting standards, it has earned its reputation through a deeply precise reading of its terroir, committed biodynamic viticulture and wines of remarkable balance between energy, aromatic purity and mineral depth.

Fosse-Sèche explores every expression of its vineyard with finesse: tense, saline dry Chenin Blancs, rare sweet wines from successive selective pickings, and reds from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon that are structured, luminous and delicately textured. The estate embodies a free, precise and profoundly living vision of Anjou.

The spirit of the estate

A Loire estate apart, driven by a search for balance between mineral tension, natural sweetness and fruit purity. Château de Fosse-Sèche produces sincere, vibrant and deeply expressive wines, where terroir freshness dialogues with grape maturity, precise ageing and remarkable cellaring potential.

Terroir: siliceous schist, granite and Anjou freshness

The vines of Château de Fosse-Sèche grow on remarkable soils of siliceous schist and granite from the Armorican Massif. This distinctive geology gives the wines vibrant tension, intense freshness and immediately recognisable aromatic purity.

Chenin Blanc finds here a vertical, saline and luminous expression, equally suited to dry whites and sweet wines shaped by noble botrytis. The reds, made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, gain depth and precision through restrained ageing, without excessive oak, preserving the natural finesse of the fruit.

Viticulture and philosophy

The vineyard is cultivated under certified biodynamic viticulture, following an approach based on respect for living soils, natural balance and the pursuit of the most sincere possible expression of terroir. Harvesting is manual and carried out with great precision, sometimes through successive selective pickings according to berry maturity or the level of botrytisation.

Production remains deliberately limited. Certain cuvées are only produced in exceptional vintages, increasing their rarity and desirability. This exacting approach gives rise to wines that are pure, singular and deeply rooted in their identity.

Aromatic profile

Dry whites: lemon, pear, ripe apple, white flowers, quince, wet stone, saline notes and mineral finish.

Sweet wines: dried apricot, quince, honey, sweet spices, candied fruit, noble botrytis and vibrant acidity.

Reds: cassis, black fruits, noble green pepper, fine leather, spices, graphite, silky tannins and vertical freshness.

Overall impression: precise, vivid and distinctive wines, marked by mineral tension, fruit purity and great textural elegance.

Vinification and ageing

Vinification favours gentle extraction, slow fermentations and the preservation of grape identity. Fermentations may take place in ovoid clay vats, concrete tanks or neutral oak barrels, depending on the cuvée and the balance sought.

Pressing: gentle and precise, preserving the finesse of the juice.

Fermentation: slow, partly in ovoid clay vats, concrete tanks or neutral barrels.

Ageing: on fine lees, for 12 to 24 months depending on the cuvée.

Interventions: no excessive fining or filtration, with priority given to precision and terroir expression.

Reds: aged without new oak, preserving fruit finesse and the wine’s natural structure.
