Domaine du Clos Naudin – Tradition, Precision & Greatness in Vouvray
A benchmark family estate in Vouvray
Located on the right bank of the Loire River, Domaine du Clos Naudin is run by Vincent Foreau, heir to a long line of passionate winegrowers. Founded by Gaston Foreau in 1910, the estate stands today as a benchmark for great Chenin Blancs, known for their purity, precision, and remarkable longevity.
Tuffeau soils & Loire exposure
The estate’s 12 hectares are planted exclusively with Chenin Blanc on clay-limestone and tuffeau soils typical of Vouvray. The vineyards’ exposure ensures slow, even ripening, essential to producing wines that are both vibrant and ample, with exceptional aging potential.
Respectful viticulture & vineyard rigor
Although not formally certified, the farming is organic in practice: no herbicides, no synthetic pesticides, manual soil work, hand harvesting, and meticulous grape sorting. Vineyard precision remains at the core of the estate’s identity.
Slow & natural fermentations
- Fermentations in old oak barrels, sometimes lasting several months.
- Minimal sulphur use, no added yeasts, no chaptalisation.
- Gentle élevage focused on clarity and vintage expression.
Signature style: minerality, precision & exceptional longevity
The wines of Clos Naudin are defined by their aromatic purity — notes of citrus, quince, honey, and white flowers — their mineral tension, and an aging potential that can span several decades. Whether dry, off-dry, moelleux, or sparkling, each cuvée reflects precision and balance at the highest level.
Signature cuvées
- Vouvray Sec – crisp, linear, and pure.
- Vouvray Demi-Sec – subtle balance of freshness and sweetness.
- Vouvray Moelleux – rich, botrytised, meditative wine.
- Vouvray Méthode Traditionnelle – fine bubbles and refined expression of tuffeau terroir.
Summary
Under Vincent Foreau’s leadership, Domaine du Clos Naudin embodies the tradition and precision of Vouvray. Its crystalline Chenin Blancs, shaped by the tuffeau soils, showcase purity, structure, and a remarkable ability to age. A benchmark for Loire Valley whites of depth and authenticity.
