Domaine Arnaud Mortet – Gevrey-Chambertin
A new chapter in Gevrey-Chambertin : precision, purity and the modern elegance of the Côte de Nuits
The Estate
Established in 2016, Domaine Arnaud Mortet was created when Arnaud and his sister Clémence took over about 4 hectares of vines in Gevrey-Chambertin from a retiring vigneron. The wines are crafted in the historic family cellar, with the same dedicated team and the same meticulous approach that shaped the reputation of the Denis Mortet estate. This new domaine allows Arnaud to express his own stylistic identity—precise, refined and vibrant—while remaining deeply rooted in the traditions of the Côte de Nuits.
Terroirs & Vineyard
The vineyards rest on classic clay-limestone soils of Gevrey-Chambertin, rich in active limestone and brown clays, offering both structure and freshness. The domaine farms a mosaic of plots covering village appellations, prestigious Premiers Crus such as La Perrière and Lavaux-Saint-Jacques, and top-tier Grands Crus including Mazoyères-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin. Yields are kept intentionally low, and the vineyards are tended following organic principles with strong biodynamic inspiration, ensuring living soils and site transparency in every cuvée.
Philosophy & Viticulture
The domaine’s approach is resolutely parcel-driven and detail-oriented. The soils are worked with care, grass cover is controlled, and treatments are limited to what is strictly necessary. All grapes are hand-harvested with rigorous sorting at the vine to retain only pristine, perfectly ripe fruit. The aim is to obtain berries of high concentration, natural balance and purity, capable of expressing the finesse of Gevrey-Chambertin’s terroirs without excess.
Winemaking & Ageing
Winemaking is both traditional and precise. A significant proportion of whole-cluster fermentation (around 50% depending on the cuvée and the vintage) is used to bring aromatic lift, texture and freshness. Macerations are gentle and progressive, with measured punch-downs and fermentations triggered by indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged for about 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with new oak kept deliberately modest to preserve fruit purity and a clear reading of each terroir.
Wine Style
The wines of Domaine Arnaud Mortet are defined by their refined elegance, precise fruit and silky textures. Aromas focus on pure red and black fruits (cherry, raspberry, blackberry), lifted by floral notes (peony, violet) and subtle spice. On the palate, they show filigree detail, supple tannins and a mineral-driven freshness that carries the finish. These are high-precision Pinot Noirs with a contemporary, expressive and elegantly structured profile, capable of ageing gracefully while remaining accessible in their youth after gentle aeration.
Signature Cuvées
Gevrey-Chambertin “Ma Cuvée”
Crafted from several village parcels, this cuvée offers an immediate signature of the Arnaud Mortet style: precise fruit, supple texture, balance and remarkable drinkability.
Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Perrière & Lavaux-Saint-Jacques
Benchmark Premiers Crus of the Côte de Nuits, combining mineral tension, depth and long, vertical structure with excellent ageing potential.
Mazoyères-Chambertin & Charmes-Chambertin Grands Crus
The domaine’s Grands Crus deliver a more dense and concentrated expression of Gevrey-Chambertin: dark-fruited core, ample texture, tightly woven tannins and a long, resonant finish, perfectly suited to collectors of great ageworthy Burgundies.
