Domaine Jean-Marc Vincent — Santenay, Southern Côte de Beaune

Based in Santenay, at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Jean-Marc Vincent has risen to become one of Burgundy’s most discreet yet respected estates. In an appellation long considered secondary, Jean-Marc and Anne-Marie Vincent reveal the remarkable potential of their terroirs, thanks to meticulous vineyard work and precision-led winemaking. Their wines now rival the most sought-after crus from Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.

Terroir & viticulture

Approximately 6 hectares, mainly in Santenay with some parcels in Auxey-Duresses. Very old vines (some over 70 years old) bring depth and intensity. Vineyard philosophy is close to biodynamics (uncertified), guided by strong principles:

  • Regular ploughing, soil respect, no herbicides.
  • Very low yields, precise pruning, meticulous canopy management.
  • Hand harvesting into small crates, rigorous sorting at the vine and cellar.

Result: pristine fruit, harvested at full maturity, allowing for a pure, tension-driven aromatic expression.

Winemaking & ageing

Reds

  • 100% destemmed, spontaneous fermentations in indigenous yeasts.
  • Gentle extraction, long ageing (up to 18 months) with up to 50% new oak, depending on the cuvée.

Whites

  • Slow pressing in whole clusters.
  • Fermentation and ageing in oak on fine lees, with limited bâtonnage to preserve precision and energy.

Wine style

Wines of crystalline finesse, crafted with extreme precision.

  • Reds — refined, floral, chiselled, with silky tannins and elongated finishes.
  • Whites — saline, vertical, profound, in the style of the finest Meursault and Chassagne whites.

Key cuvées

  • Santenay 1er Cru “Beaurepaire” (white) — saline, tense, great length, with a “Meursault-like” charme.
  • Santenay 1er Cru “Gravières” (red) — fine, floral, polished tannins, racily long.
  • Auxey-Duresses “Les Hautés” (white) — crystalline, pure, with vibrant energy.
  • Santenay “Les Potets” (red) — more approachable, fresh, crunchy, very pure.
  • Bourgogne Côte d’Or (white) — subtle white fruit, mineral tension, refined elegance.
