Château Meyney — The Quiet Strength of Saint-Estèphe
Harmony, structure and depth from a great Médoc terroir.
A Historic Estate Overlooking the Gironde
Founded in the 17th century, Château Meyney is one of the oldest wine estates in the Médoc. Ideally located on a gentle slope facing the Gironde estuary, it has become a major reference in Saint-Estèphe. Its single-block vineyard covers 51 hectares with remarkable exposure, ensuring slow and even ripening of the grapes. Under the technical direction of Anne Le Naour, the estate combines strength, elegance, and consistency in a refined, authentic style.
A Singular Terroir of Gravel and Blue Clay
The vines are rooted in deep gravel soils resting on a thick layer of blue clay, one of the finest terroirs of Saint-Estèphe. This rare combination gives the wine solid structure, natural freshness, and a distinctive mineral tension.
- Cabernet Sauvignon (60–70%) — structure, backbone, longevity
- Merlot (20–30%) — roundness and flesh
- Petit Verdot (5–10%) — aromatic intensity and complexity
The proximity to the estuary acts as a natural climate regulator, limiting temperature variations and ensuring consistent grape ripening.
Precision Viticulture and Respect for Nature
Vineyard management is based on sustainable viticulture, including meticulous parcel monitoring, manual harvesting, and double sorting both in the vineyard and at the cellar. Some parcels are in organic conversion, and soil management aims to preserve biodiversity and water balance.
Winemaking & Ageing — Tradition Meets Modernity
Fermentations take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats, with long macerations adapted to each lot. Ageing lasts 16 to 24 months in French oak barrels, 40 to 50% new. This delicate approach enhances complexity and texture without masking the purity of the fruit.
Style & Signature Cuvées
Château Meyney (Grand Vin) — a powerful and refined Saint-Estèphe with aromas of ripe black fruit, licorice, blond tobacco, and sweet spices. The palate is dense and focused, supported by noble tannins and a long, saline, persistent finish. Excellent ageing potential (15 to 25 years).
Prieur de Meyney (Second Wine) — a more immediate and approachable expression of the terroir, with juicy fruit and supple tannins, offering a perfect introduction to the estate’s style.
