Domaine Jean Trapet Père & Fils – The Living Soul of Gevrey
Gevrey-Chambertin • Côte de Nuits • Burgundy — Family estate ~15 ha • Biodynamic pioneer
A Living and Demanding Vision
Located in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Jean Trapet Père & Fils embodies a unique and respected approach to Burgundian viticulture. Heir to a lineage of winegrowers rooted in the village since the 19th century, Jean-Louis Trapet took over the family estate in the 1990s with a clear ambition: to unite the strength of great terroirs with a deeply living, biodynamic philosophy. A pioneer in biodynamics in the Côte de Nuits, he has passed this vision on to his son Pierre Trapet.
Vineyard & Farming Practices
- 15 hectares across some of the finest Gevrey-Chambertin climats in village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru appellations.
- Biodynamic farming for more than 20 years: horse ploughing, herbal teas, close attention to natural cycles.
- Low yields, manual harvesting and meticulous sorting ensure concentration and finesse.
Winemaking & Aging
- Partial or full destemming depending on the vintage; native yeast fermentations without inoculation.
- Gentle extractions through slow infusion, respecting fruit purity and Pinot Noir finesse.
- Aging in French oak barrels with 20–35% new oak for 12 to 18 months.
- Bottling without fining or filtration to preserve aromatic precision.
House Style
- Pure, mineral-driven energy typical of Gevrey terroirs.
- Silky tannins, elegant floral and spicy aromas, impressive aging potential.
- Never showy wines — always balanced, precise and profound.
