Tenuta di Biserno — The aristocratic expression of Bibbona

Where Bordeaux precision meets Tuscan luminosity

Tenuta di Biserno stands as one of the most refined and discreet estates of the Alta Maremma. Founded in 2001 by Lodovico and Piero Antinori, two pivotal figures in Tuscany’s modern renaissance, the estate was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of great Bordeaux blends, illuminated by the Mediterranean light of the Bibbona hills.

Today, Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi carries this vision forward: parcel-precision, excellence in viticulture, and a crystalline expression of a modern Tuscan style built on freshness, depth, and longevity.

Terroir — Bibbona, a mineral landscape between hills and sea

The Biserno vineyard spans approximately 49 hectares at the heart of a natural amphitheatre, around 100 metres above sea level. This rare environment combines:

  • Alluvial and stony soils — mineral richness and structural tension.
  • Fine sands and clays — aromatic finesse and textural relief.
  • Constant maritime ventilation — natural freshness and slow ripening.
  • Proximity to the Mediterranean — stable luminosity and expansive aromatics.

Lodovico Antinori identified here one of the greatest sites in Italy for Cabernet Franc: deep yet vibrant, structured yet aerial, with remarkable aromatic precision. Plantings also include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, shaping an ensemble of impeccable coherence.

Philosophy & Viticulture — Precision, selection, modern classicism

Tenuta di Biserno distinguishes itself through rare parcel-driven rigor and a deeply qualitative vision:

  • sustainable viticulture and strictly reduced yields;
  • hand harvesting only;
  • severe berry selection;
  • vinifications separated by variety and by parcel;
  • no search for opulence — priority is freshness, balance and aromatic definition.

Fermentations are carried out in stainless steel or concrete vats, with gentle extractions and meticulous temperature control. Ageing in French oak barriques — with perfectly calibrated new oak — polishes the tannins without ever overshadowing the fruit.

Wine Style — Controlled density, linear freshness, Bordelais elegance

The Biserno signature is built on three defining dimensions:

  • Silky texture — precise tannins, refined structure, seamless mouthfeel.
  • Vertical freshness — linear, long, energetic expression.
  • Aromatic depth — black fruits, graphite, violet, fine spices, subtle salinity.

The wines are approachable in youth, yet their ageing capacity — 15 to 25 years depending on vintage — confirms the estate’s long-term ambition.

Key Cuvées

Biserno – Toscana IGT
The flagship cuvée, dominated by Cabernet Franc. Deep, noble, with controlled density, sculpted by structured freshness and remarkable length. Vibrant, ample and refined — Bordeaux-like tension under Tuscan light.

Il Pino di Biserno
The domaine’s more immediate expression. Precise, harmonious, elegant structure and bright aromatics. A perfect introduction to the Biserno style, balancing accessibility and depth.

Lodovico
A rare cuvée produced only in outstanding vintages. Majestic complexity, luxurious texture, impressive length. One of the great wines of the Alta Maremma, and among the finest Cabernet Francs in Italy.
