Pauillac – Médoc, Bordeaux

Château Pichon Longueville Baron — sculpted elegance, noble intensity and refined power

Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, Château Pichon Longueville Baron — often simply called “Pichon Baron” — is one of the most emblematic estates of Pauillac. Located on Bordeaux’s prestigious Left Bank, the vineyard covers around 73 hectares of deep gravel and perfectly illustrates the harmony between Bordeaux tradition and contemporary precision.

Owned by the Lurton family since 1947, the estate is today led by Ronald Lurton, supported by a highly skilled oenological team. The house style is expressed through structured, deep and balanced wines, where the natural power of Cabernet Sauvignon meets remarkable finesse.

Terroir

The vineyard rests on a Günzian gravel plateau with a clay-limestone subsoil, ensuring optimal drainage and deep rooting, allowing for slow, even ripening of the grapes.

Precision plot-by-plot viticulture

Vineyard management follows a meticulous plot-by-plot approach: controlled cover cropping, precise pruning, manual harvests and strict sorting both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Sustainable and environmentally respectful practices — including maintaining natural hedges and plant cover — preserve biodiversity and soil balance.

Each plot receives individual attention, ensuring optimal grape selection and a faithful expression of terroir.

Winemaking & ageing

Fermentations are carried out in micro-lots in stainless steel and wooden vats, with long macerations of 3 to 4 weeks to achieve finesse and complexity. Ageing lasts 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels (around 50% new), complemented by large foudres to bring subtle balance between structure, freshness and aromatic purity.

Signature cuvées

Château Pichon Baron (Grand Vin)
A structured, noble wine with a dense robe and a deep nose of blackcurrant, graphite, cedar and cigar notes. The palate is marked by silky yet firm tannins, saline elegance and great aromatic persistence.
Ageing potential: 20 to 40 years depending on vintage.

Les Tourelles de Longueville (Second Wine)
More approachable in its youth, this wine retains the estate’s stylistic signature with vibrant fruit, velvety texture and refined precision.

Tasting signature

Château Pichon Longueville Baron stands out for the finesse of its tannic structure, its aromatic depth and a subtle minerality on the finish. This timeless style, both precise and opulent, places it among the great Pauillac wines.

Food pairings

The Grand Vin pairs beautifully with:

  • Grilled or roasted ribeye
  • Game birds or slow-cooked game
  • Herb-roasted lamb
  • Wild mushrooms and aged cheeses (Comté, mature Mimolette, Cantal)

The second wine is a graceful match for more immediate dishes such as roasted poultry, grilled meats or forest mushroom risottos.
