Domaine Bruno Clair — Finesse, precision and family heritage
Marsannay • Côte de Nuits • Burgundy — Family estate • 27 ha • 32 appellations
A winemaking dynasty and a new chapter
Bruno Clair, heir to a lineage of vignerons dating back to the early 19th century, founded his own estate in 1979 after the division of Clair-Daü, established by his grandfather. He reunited the family vineyards in Marsannay, Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, then gradually expanded the holdings to include prestigious terroirs such as Bonnes-Mares, Clos de Bèze and Corton-Charlemagne. Today, the domaine covers 27 hectares across 8 villages and 32 appellations.
Parcel management & sustainable viticulture
- Vineyards planted on limestone-clay soils, facing east to southeast.
- No herbicides; careful soil management with natural cover crops.
- Guyot-Poussard pruning implemented since 2015 to protect vine health and longevity.
- Organic amendments and eco-responsible, reduced phytosanitary treatments.
Refined vinification & controlled élevage
- Reds (Pinot Noir): fermented in open wooden vats with 20–50% whole clusters depending on the vintage, aged 18–20 months in oak barrels (up to 50% new depending on the cuvée).
- Whites (Chardonnay & Aligoté): fermented in stainless steel, then aged in barrels and foudres (≤20% new) on fine lees for 16–18 months.
- Rosés: also benefit from long élevage, reflecting the same qualitative approach.
Signature style
The wines of Domaine Bruno Clair are distinguished by their textural finesse, vibrant energy and precise aromatics. Whether Marsannay, Savigny, Gevrey or grands crus such as Clos de Bèze, Bonnes-Mares or Corton-Charlemagne, each wine expresses the depth and singularity of its terroir with classic Burgundian clarity.
