Hubervini — Monteggio

A quiet pioneer of Ticino Merlot

Founded in 1981 in Monteggio, in the Tresàtal valley, Daniel Huber revitalized abandoned hillside terraces to craft some of Ticino’s most elegant Merlot. With a background in forestry and oenology, he quickly gained a reputation as one of the key artisans of the region, known for wines of remarkable finesse and precision.

Today, his son Jonas Huber and his wife Sara continue this legacy with rigor and sensitivity, carrying forward the family spirit of an estate now emblematic of Ticino’s fine wines.

An ideal terraced terroir

The vineyard covers 7 hectares of south-facing slopes. The soils, composed of friable gneiss with some clay, give the wines structure and depth — a sharp contrast with the lighter sandy soils of some neighboring zones.

Ticino’s sunny climate and elevated terraces ensure slow, concentrated ripening, producing grapes of outstanding aromatic richness.

Style — Finesse, elegance, depth

  • Silky tannins
  • Perfectly integrated acidity
  • Complex aromatic palette (red and black fruits, fine spices, subtle oak)

The wines are charming in their youth yet built to age gracefully — especially the Merlot Montagna Magica, the estate’s signature wine.

Signature cuvées

Montagna Magica — A blend of Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc. Aged extensively in barriques and large casks, this rich, velvety wine embodies the estate’s style.

Costera Riserva — Merlot and Cabernet Franc vinified separately and blended after a long ageing in barriques and large casks. A complex wine with ripe fruit and spice notes.

Ronco di Persico — 100% Merlot from the historic Persico terroir (gneiss and clay). Structured and intense.

Fustoquattro — Fruity, supple Merlot vinified for early drinking, with smooth, soft tannins.

Philosophy — Nature and authenticity

The estate practices sustainable viticulture, with no herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Harvesting is manual and yields are moderate. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts, and oak ageing is used with precision to allow the terroir to fully express itself.
