Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret – Vosne-Romanée

Eight generations in the Côte de Nuits: legendary grands crus and the timeless elegance of Vosne-Romanée

History & Identity

Established in the heart of Vosne-Romanée for more than eight generations, the Mongeard family — joined with the Mugneret lineage in 1945 — represents one of the historic names of the Côte de Nuits. Today, the estate is led by Vincent Mongeard and his wife, stewarding nearly 30 hectares across a remarkable range of 35 cuvées, spanning regional appellations to some of Burgundy’s most revered grands crus. Each wine seeks to capture the soul of its climat with precision, authenticity and Burgundian nobility.

Terroir & Vineyard

The vineyard holdings of Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret form an exceptional mosaic of parcels situated on the finest slopes of the Côte de Nuits. Mostly oriented south-east, the vines grow on classic limestone–clay soils with variations in depth, stone content and gradient that give each climat its own identity. The estate encompasses major appellations such as Richebourg, Grands Échézeaux, Échézeaux, along with numerous Premiers Crus in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin and other key villages of the Côte.

This intricate network of terroirs — from deep, ageworthy grands crus to more immediate regional and village wines — allows the domaine to present a complete, articulate reading of the Côte de Nuits. The dominance of Pinot Noir, combined with low yields and mature vines, results in wines that are concentrated, refined and built for long ageing.

Wine Style

Mongeard-Mugneret wines are marked by a balance of power, finesse and aromatic depth. Aromas of red and black fruits (cherry, raspberry, blackberry) mingle with spice, earthy notes, and with age, hints of truffle and forest floor. The palate delivers structured, finely chiselled tannins, a confident mid-palate and long, persistent finishes. These are wines that show beautifully after a few years, yet truly flourish with patient cellaring.

Philosophy & Winemaking

The domaine’s philosophy rests on three pillars: tradition, precision and respect for the living. Vineyard practices are closely aligned with organic principles, with parcel-by-parcel attention, manual harvesting and controlled yields to preserve fruit integrity. Each climat is vinified separately to safeguard its unique identity.

In the cellar, parcel-based vinification follows traditional methods: meticulous sorting, controlled fermentations, measured extraction and minimal filtration. Ageing in carefully selected oak barrels — with an adapted proportion of new oak depending on the appellation and vintage — is designed to support the structure of the wines without overshadowing fruit purity or the mineral signature of the terroir. The aim remains constant: producing wines that are structured, expressive and sincere, revealing the nuanced personality of each Burgundian climat.

Key Cuvées

Grands Crus (Richebourg, Grands Échézeaux, Échézeaux)
Wines of opulence and depth, with profound tannic structure and outstanding ageing potential. Aromatics include black fruit, spice, licorice, floral notes and an evolving mineral tension.

Premiers Crus (Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges, …)
Wines that faithfully express the character of each village: silky finesse in Vosne-Romanée, earth-driven structure in Nuits-Saint-Georges, energy and power in Gevrey-Chambertin. Depth, nuance and excellent capacity for ageing.

Village & Regional Wines (Bourgogne Rouge, Vosne-Romanée Village, etc.)
Wines with vibrant, expressive fruit, fine-grained structure and immediate elegance. A perfect introduction to the Mongeard-Mugneret style — precise, balanced and unmistakably Burgundian.
