On ancestral lands located in Vosne-Romanée, the Domaine de la Romanée Conti has been producing bottles of exceptional quality for over two centuries. Its flagship wine is the "Romanée Conti".
It is rightly considered one of the most prestigious estates in Burgundy.
Here are some key elements of the estate's flagship wine:
- Plot: 1.8 hectares on a gentle slope (out of the estate's 25 ha). Its size has not changed since 1512.
- Yield: 20 to 25 hectoliters per hectare.
- Production: only 3,000 to 6,000 bottles of Romanée Conti are produced per year, intended in advance for prestigious clients on a waiting list.
- Wine style: at its peak, the great wine La Romanée Conti is a unique blend of density and silkiness.
- Grape variety: Pinot Noir.
- Nose: notes of black fruits, blueberry, tobacco, followed by touches of wood, leather, and truffle.
- Palate: the key words are finesse, tenderness, and richness.
- Peak: the true nature of a bottle of Romanée Conti is revealed only after at least 15 years of maturity.
- Serving temperature: the ideal temperature to enjoy a bottle of Romanée Conti is 16 degrees. It does not need to be decanted.
- Price: around 5,000 francs for the "small vintages" but it quickly reaches double or triple for the great vintages.
- Most sought-after vintages: 1945 (only 300 bottles produced), 1985, 1990, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2001.
- Other wines of the estate: Richebourg, La Tâche, Romanée St Vivant, Montrachet, Grands Echezeaux, and Echezeaux as well as a bit of Vosne Premier Cru.
- Owner: the estate is owned by the two families Leroy and de Villaine.
