Sauternes 2009 – mature noble sweet wines from a generous vintage

Bordeaux • Sauternes • Vintage 2009 • Noble sweet wines • Sémillon

Why 2009 Stands Out for Richness and Golden Intensity

The 2009 vintage was a warm, generous year for the noble sweet wines of Sauternes. A hot, dry and luminous growing season allowed the grapes to reach excellent ripeness, with healthy, concentrated berries and naturally rich fruit. The development of noble rot then added further depth and concentration, producing ample, golden and deeply aromatic wines.

The style of 2009 is built around richness, texture and fruit intensity. The finest Sauternes of the vintage combine sweetness, sufficient freshness and aromas of candied apricot, honey, saffron, candied citrus, roasted pineapple and sweet spices. It is a more opulent than austere vintage, highly seductive in expression and now especially attractive to drink.

How the vintage is drinking today

More than fifteen years after the harvest, Sauternes 2009 is entering a beautiful stage of maturity. The wines are beginning to move beyond their youthful expression and develop greater complexity, with notes of acacia honey, candied fruit, beeswax, marmalade, saffron, roasted exotic fruit and delicate spice.

The finest bottles still retain strong ageing potential, especially when the balance between richness and freshness has been well preserved. Standard bottles can already offer immediate pleasure, while the top estates may continue to gain depth, patina and aromatic complexity over time.

Vintage style

Richness, sweetness, candied fruit, honey, saffron, ample texture and highly accessible pleasure.

Potential

Already beautiful to drink, with real reserve in the top estates and well-preserved bottles.
