Bruno Giacosa — A Founding Lineage, A Legendary Man
Descended from a family of négociants and winemakers established in Neive since the late 19th century, Bruno Giacosa embodies the very essence of Piedmontese excellence. As the third generation, he took over the family business as a teenager and, starting in the 1960s, became one of the first to vinify Barolo and Barbaresco as single-vineyard wines. Nicknamed the “Genius of Neive”, he left an indelible mark on Piedmont through his relentless pursuit of purity and precision.
Estate and Terroirs: Legendary Sites
From the 1980s onward, Bruno Giacosa acquired several prestigious crus: Falletto in Serralunga d’Alba, Asili and Rabajà in Barbaresco, and parcels in La Morra. Altogether, they cover around 20 hectares, located at around 400 m altitude on limestone and marl soils, offering an ideal microclimate for Nebbiolo.
Viticulture & Winemaking: Updated Tradition
His philosophy is described as “updated traditional”: hand harvesting, long macerations (30 to 50 days) in stainless steel tanks, gentle fermentation, and 3 to 4 years of ageing in 50 hL botti before bottling without filtration. The Riserva wines, identified by their famous “Red Label”, are only produced in the greatest vintages.
Signature Style: Purity, Depth, Finesse
The single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco wines of Bruno Giacosa are renowned for their firm yet noble tannic structure, their aromas of black cherry, forest floor and spices, and their remarkable ageing capacity. The estate’s other wines — Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera — express the same precision, balance, freshness and elegance.
