Château Rauzan-Ségla – Aristocratic Precision, Floral Intensity & Textural Finesse

A timeless Second Growth Classified Cru where the structured sensuality of Margaux reaches its purest expression.

A Second Growth of Timeless Elegance

Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, Château Rauzan-Ségla has embodied the refined spirit of Margaux for over three centuries. Founded in 1661, this historic estate has preserved its aristocratic identity — a wine of rare distinction, blending power, balance, and grace. Acquired in 1994 by Maison Louis Roederer, the estate benefits today from exceptional technical leadership by Sébastien Ménard and Jérôme Bressy, elevating it among the appellation’s finest.

An Exceptional Terroir on the Gravel Ridges of Margaux

The vineyard extends over 52 hectares in a single block, planted on Garonne gravel ridges over clay-limestone subsoils. This noble terroir provides ideal drainage and light reflection, encouraging slow and even ripening.

Meticulous, Parcel-Based Viticulture

  • Manual harvesting only
  • Fine parcel selection
  • Cover crops and careful soil work to preserve microbial life
  • Promotion of biodiversity across the estate

The goal is clear: to express each parcel’s unique character with absolute precision.

Winemaking & Ageing — The Art of Balance

Grapes are vinified parcel by parcel and variety by variety in a combination of stainless steel, concrete, or wooden vats, depending on their profile. Macerations are long and gentle, focusing on elegance rather than sheer power. Ageing lasts 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new), seamlessly integrated to preserve the fruit and terroir purity. This precision yields wines of aristocratic length, silky texture, and lingering freshness.

Style & Signature

  • Nose: violet, black cherry, licorice, pencil lead, and cedar.
  • Palate: chiselled tannins, velvety texture, airy balance between depth and precision.
  • Finish: long, fresh, lightly saline, and graceful.

Ageing potential extends from 10 to 30 years, with a slow and harmonious evolution.
