Domaine Yves Gangloff – The Pure Emotion of the Northern Rhône

Sensual Syrah, crystalline Viognier and the artistic soul of Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie

Based in Condrieu, at the heart of the Northern Rhône, Domaine Yves Gangloff has become a true regional icon. Originally from Alsace, Yves Gangloff settled in Condrieu in the 1980s, trained with Delas Frères, and eventually founded his own domaine with his wife Mathilde. Their son, Guillaume Gangloff, has now joined the estate and continues to shape the style of a domaine that has reached cult status — combining technical precision with a uniquely artistic sensibility, reflected in the labels illustrated by Yves’ brother, Pierre Gangloff.

The domaine quickly became known for a style that is instantly recognisable: sensual, vibrant, precise, anchored in the silky textures of granitic Syrah and the perfumed clarity of Viognier.

Terroirs & Vineyards

The estate spans around 11 hectares across three emblematic Northern Rhône appellations: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph. All vineyards are worked entirely by hand on dramatic, steep terraces.

Côte-Rôtie — approx. 2.4 hectares

  • Sols : gneiss, schist, granite
  • Lieux-dits : Combard, Mollard, Rozier
  • Grape varieties : Syrah with varying proportions of Viognier

These high-altitude, granitic terroirs deliver expressive, lifted wines with rare aromatic finesse.

Condrieu — Pure Viognier on decomposed granite

Extremely steep slopes entirely planted with Viognier. The friable granitic soils provide floral purity, mineral tension and delicate depth.

Saint-Joseph — Whites & Reds

Parcels on granite soils, yielding honest, luminous wines — more direct but always precise.

Viticulture

The domaine follows a sustainable, low-intervention philosophy focused on expressing place:

  • 100% manual harvesting
  • strict yield control
  • careful soil work
  • minimal intervention and respect for the landscape

Winemaking & Ageing

The domaine’s vinification is based on precision, finesse and balance:

  • native-yeast fermentations
  • long but gentle macerations for the reds
  • controlled extractions to maintain energy and silkiness
  • barrel ageing with moderate new oak (10–20%)
  • Condrieu aged in barrels (20–30% new oak) to enhance texture without masking purity
  • careful bottling to preserve fruit precision

This approach yields wines of tactile precision — concentrated yet luminous.

Wine Style

Wines from Domaine Yves Gangloff stand out for:

  • brilliant aromatic purity
  • vibrant fruit energy
  • silky, velvety textures
  • depth without heaviness
  • an instinctive, almost musical elegance
  • a signature style instantly recognisable

Côte-Rôtie combines freshness, verticality, intensity and floral finesse. Condrieu shines through explosive perfume, precise balance and refined amplitude. Saint-Joseph offers a more direct, digestible expression of granite.

Signature Cuvées

Côte-Rôtie “La Barbarine”
Syrah with a touch of Viognier depending on the vintage. Vibrant, floral, seductive, irresistibly elegant.

Côte-Rôtie “La Sereine Noire”

Condrieu
Pure, expressive Viognier. Explosive aromatics, ample mouthfeel, refined texture, luminous finish.

Saint-Joseph Rouge & Blanc
