Weingut Jakob Schneider – Volcanic Precision from the Nahe
Weingut Jakob Schneider is one of Germany’s oldest family-run wine estates. Founded in 1575, it is located in Niederhausen, in the heart of the Nahe region, along the river’s scenic banks. Today, the estate is led by Jakob Schneider Jr. and his wife Laura Schneider, representing the tenth generation of dedicated vintners. Their philosophy is simple yet profound: to let the volcanic soils of the Nahe speak through pure, energetic, and timeless Rieslings.
Volcanic Terroir of the Nahe
The 18-hectare estate is planted with 85% Riesling on steep slopes composed of volcanic rocks, slate, and greywacke. Prestigious single vineyards such as Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle, Klamm, Kertz, and Rosenheck showcase the extraordinary geological diversity of the Nahe.
Warm days and cool nights, combined with mineral-rich volcanic soils, give rise to wines of vibrant acidity, saline depth, and crystalline precision — the unmistakable signature of great Nahe Riesling.
Signature Wines
- Riesling Trocken — A crisp, dry introduction to the estate’s style, marked by citrus brightness and refined minerality.
- Niederhäuser Klamm Riesling Kabinett — Light, graceful, and mineral, with notes of citrus and white peach.
- Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese / Trocken — From one of Germany’s greatest crus; deep, structured, and tension-filled.
- Riesling “Magnus” — Focused and saline, expressing the pure volcanic soul of Nahe Riesling.
- Weißburgunder & Grauburgunder (Pinot Blanc & Pinot Gris) — Silky, balanced, and lifted by a fresh mineral edge.
- Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) — Delicate, spicy, and elegant, produced in small quantities.
Winemaking & Philosophy
Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel or traditional oak casks. Low yields, manual vineyard work, and minimal intervention ensure the wines preserve their authenticity, purity, and sense of place.
Jakob Schneider’s wines are celebrated for their tension, minerality, and balance — uniting power and finesse with precision and energy.
