Domaine Albert Mann — The Pure, Structured Expression of Alsace’s Great Terroirs
Based in Wettolsheim, Domaine Albert Mann is widely regarded as one of Alsace’s leading estates. Blending deep family tradition with a modern vision, the Barthelmé family has forged a benchmark reputation for terroir-driven Rieslings and world-class Pinot Noirs.
History & Philosophy
Born from the union of two historic vigneron families — the Manns and the Barthelmés — the estate is led today by Maurice and Jacky Barthelmé, alongside their spouses Marie-Claire and Marie-Thérèse. The domaine farms roughly 25 hectares on some of Alsace’s finest sites.
Environmentally respectful farming has been a pillar since the 1990s. The estate has been organic (Ecocert) and biodynamic (Biodyvin) certified since 2010. Their philosophy is rooted in precise parcel selection, soil stewardship, and the faithful expression of each cru.
Terroirs & Grands Crus
A remarkable mosaic of soils is farmed with an exacting single-parcel approach:
- Grands Crus: Schlossberg, Wineck-Schlossberg, Furstentum, Hengst, Steingrubler, Pfersigberg
- Outstanding lieux-dits: Altenbourg, Rosenberg
- Pinot Noir monopoles: Clos de la Faille (1 ha on sandstone & limestone fault lines), Les Saintes Claires
The estate’s granite, limestone marl, and sandstone profiles yield wines of energy, depth, and precision.
Viticulture & Winemaking
- Estate-wide organic & biodynamic farming; careful cover-cropping; moderate yields
- Manual harvest across all sites
- Indigenous yeasts and terroir-specific vinifications
- Ageing in foudres and barrels, with an unwavering focus on purity and tension
The aim is simple: let each terroir speak clearly, without artifice.
