Domaine Bachelet-Monnot – Precision and Purity in the Côte de Beaune

A Young Estate with Grand Ambitions

Founded in 2005 in Dezize-lès-Maranges by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, Domaine Bachelet-Monnot has quickly become one of the most promising names in the Côte de Beaune. With nearly 22 hectares spread across twenty appellations, the estate produces wines of remarkable precision — combining purity, tension, and depth. The founding ambition remains the same: to craft wines without artifice, faithful to the essence of their terroir.

Respectful Viticulture with Biodynamic Influence

Though not officially certified, the estate’s vineyard work is strongly inspired by biodynamic principles: gentle soil tillage, respect for lunar cycles, total absence of herbicides, and manual harvesting. The vineyard includes about 12 ha of Pinot Noir and 10 ha of Chardonnay, with vines averaging 35 to 50 years of age, spanning from regional Bourgogne to Premier and Grand Cru sites. This natural yet pragmatic approach preserves soil vitality and ensures the expressive energy of the fruit.

Non-Interventionist Winemaking and Balanced Ageing

In the cellar, Marc and Alexandre Bachelet favor a hands-off approach focused on precision and harmony. The white wines are pressed slowly, fermented and aged in 350 L oak barrels (about 25% new) for 12 months, then refined in tank before bottling. The red wines undergo gentle macerations — sometimes with whole clusters, depending on the vintage. Ageing lasts 18 to 20 months in barrels (10–35% new oak), followed by careful racking to preserve the wines’ silky texture and fruit purity.

Signature Style: Purity, Tension, and Definition

The wines of Domaine Bachelet-Monnot are characterized by their clarity, brightness, and salinity. The white wines stand out for their mineral freshness and crystalline tension — especially those from Les Folatières, Les Referts, and Bâtard-Montrachet. The red wines (Maranges, Santenay, Puligny-Rouges) display pure fruit, velvety tannins, and energetic structure, faithfully expressing the depth of the Côte de Beaune terroirs. The Maranges Premier Crus, such as La Fussière and Clos de la Boutière, are particularly acclaimed for their balance and outstanding value.

Signature Wines

  • Bourgogne Blanc & Rouge – ideal introduction to the estate’s style; finesse, purity, and tension.
  • Saint-Aubin 1er Cru “En Remilly”, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru “Les Murgers des Dents de Chien”, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Les Referts”, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru – sculpted, mineral-driven whites built for long ageing.
  • Maranges 1er Crus “La Fussière” and “Clos de la Boutière” – structured, elegant, and precise reds that define the estate’s style.
  • Santenay, Puligny-Rouges and other Côte de Beaune sites – expressive, harmonious reds showcasing the diversity of the region’s terroirs.

Summary

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot represents the new generation of Burgundy producers: disciplined, sensitive, and deeply respectful of the land. Through subtle élevage and an unadorned approach, Marc and Alexandre Bachelet craft wines of exemplary purity — among the most precise and elegant expressions of the modern Côte de Beaune.
