Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru — Silk, Elegance and Timeless Grace
The wines of Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru rank among the most refined and sought-after in the Côte de Nuits. In their youth, they reveal an expressive aromatic profile of red fruits — strawberry, raspberry, morello cherry — lifted by delicate floral notes of rose. With age, the bouquet develops into a noble and complex array of tertiary aromas: undergrowth, licorice, baked apple, fine spices and truffle.
On the palate, Clos des Lambrays stands out for its silky texture, precise tannins and remarkable length. This is a Grand Cru defined by balance, refinement and grace — capable of evolving beautifully over several decades.
Food Pairings
- Charolais beef with chanterelles
- Roast free-range poultry
- Delicately prepared small game
- Wild mushroom risotto
Powerful or heavily spiced sauces should be avoided to preserve the wine’s subtle aromatic expression.
History & Terroir
Originally divided among 74 owners after the French Revolution of 1789, Clos des Lambrays underwent a slow reunification process starting in 1868, leading to an exceptional situation in Burgundy today: only two producers make this Grand Cru.
- Domaine des Lambrays — owned by LVMH, holds 8.66 of the appellation’s 8.70 hectares and produces around 35,000 bottles annually.
- Domaine Taupenot-Merme — produces only about 300 bottles per year, making its wines extremely rare.
