Domaine Dugat-Py – Gevrey-Chambertin

The deepest expression of Gevrey-Chambertin: power, concentration and noble texture

The Estate

Located in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Dugat-Py is a distinguished, family-run estate at the forefront of the Côte de Nuits. Its approximately 15 hectares of vineyards—planted almost exclusively with Pinot Noir—produce some of the village’s most sought-after wines. Over several generations, the Dugat family has forged a signature style: wines of remarkable density and depth, always balanced by structural freshness and precise, vibrant fruit.

Terroir & Vineyard

The domaine draws on a superb collection of parcels surrounding Gevrey-Chambertin, planted on slopes with clay-limestone soils, enriched with red clay and limestone scree. Predominantly east to south-east facing, the vineyards benefit from ideal sunlight and natural ventilation, ensuring optimal ripeness while retaining freshness. Low yields from old vines contribute to wines that are simultaneously massive in structure and refined in detail.

Philosophy & Viticulture

Viticulture is guided by a profound respect for living soils: meticulous ploughing, controlled grass cover and minimal treatments. All grapes are hand-harvested and sorted rigorously in both vineyard and cellar to retain only perfectly healthy, optimally ripe fruit. The aim is clear—capture the purest possible expression of Gevrey’s terroir with no compromise on quality.

Winemaking & Ageing

In the cellar, the domaine follows a resolutely traditional Burgundian approach: fermentations in small vats, extended macerations, gentle pump-overs and controlled extraction to maintain purity of fruit. The wines are then aged for approximately 16 to 20 months in French oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new oak for the most prestigious appellations. This slow maturation adds texture, dimension and longevity while preserving the identity of each terroir.

Wine Style

Dugat-Py wines are defined by their contained power and impressive depth. The colour is often a deep, intense ruby; the aromatics reveal ripe black fruits (blackberry, cassis), along with violet, spices, and occasional notes of truffle or forest floor. On the palate, the structure is firm yet coated with silky, polished tannins, supported by a refreshing tension that elongates the finish. Built for ageing, these wines can evolve gracefully over several decades in top vintages.
