Most wanted wine estate by region:
"Blending Blaufränkisch and Merlot cultivated on calcareous sandy, clayey, silty and gravelly soils, Heinrich's single vineyard bottling 2013 Salzberg opens with a ripe, elegant, still a bit reductive but pretty intense, fresh and spicy flavored bouquet that indicates both purity and complexity. Full-bodied, intense and concentrated on the palate, with pure, ripe and pithy fruit, firm tannins and a coolish silky texture, this is a powerful, well structured and persistent red wine with good grip, nice austerity and excellent aging potential. Domaine Heinrich is located in Gols, in the north of Burgenland, Austria, and is renowned for producing some of the country's most celebrated red wines. Founded by Gernot Heinrich and his wife Heike, the estate specializes in biodynamic viticulture and focuses on red varietals such as Zweigelt, Sankt Laurent, Blaufränkisch, and Merlot, while also producing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) wines.
With 90 hectares of vineyards, the estate is situated on the southern shores of Lake Neusiedl, where the diverse soils and unique microclimates create ideal conditions for producing expressive wines. Heinrich's meticulous approach to low-yielding vineyards ensures the wines showcase the best qualities of the terroir.
The estate's flagship wines, including the celebrated Pannobile (a blend of Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt) and the Gabarinza (a blend of Blaufränkisch and Merlot), are known for their complexity, rich aromas, and remarkable aging potential. These wines have received high praise from critics, including Robert Parker, who noted that Heinrich produces "some of Austria's most celebrated red wines."
In 2001, Gernot Heinrich was named "Winemaker of the Year" by Falstaff, Austria's leading wine magazine, in recognition of his contribution to elevating Austrian red wines. One of the standout vineyard sites is Salzberg, a southern slope named after the vineyard above the winery, producing some of the estate's most expressive and unique wines.
Through its commitment to sustainable and biodynamic practices, Domaine Heinrich has become a leading force in Austrian wine, producing reds that capture the essence of the Burgenland region.
