Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2008 - Domaine des Chezeaux (magnum, 1.5 l)

Tasting notes

The Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2008 from Domaine des Chezeaux (made at Domaine Ponsot with their estate vineyard holdings) is a rare and exquisite wine from one of the most prestigious Grand Crus of Burgundy.

With a ruby hue, it presents a complex bouquet of cherry confiture, red fruits, licorice, and spices, with a distinctive mineral note reflecting the unique terroir. The wine is known for its elegance, sensuality, and refinement. On the palate, it is soft and opulent, with round tannins that complement the low acidity of the climat. The texture is silky and glossy, evoking the sensation of silk and lace. This wine is both powerful and graceful, making it a perfect expression of Griotte-Chambertin's charm and aging potential.

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

Domaine des Chezeaux was established in 1982 from the holdings of the Mercier family, who continue to run the estate under SNV des Chézeaux. Located in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy, the domaine is particularly notable for being the largest owner of Griotte-Chambertin, one of the most prestigious vineyards in the area.

The estate’s vineyards, which include renowned plots in Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, and Morey-Saint-Denis, are now leased to other producers. Notably, Domaine Ponsot manages several top sites, including Le Chambertin, Clos St. Denis, and 57% of the Griotte-Chambertin.

The wines of Domaine des Chezeaux are crafted with respect for Burgundy’s traditional winemaking methods, while also embracing modern, sustainable viticulture practices. The estate produces wines from old vines, with a focus on Pinot Noir for red wines and Chardonnay for whites. Hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts, the wines are aged in oak barrels, resulting in wines that are elegant, complex, and capable of aging gracefully.

Domaine des Chezeaux is highly regarded by Burgundy enthusiasts for producing wines that authentically express the terroir, with a particular emphasis on elegance and finesse, making them both approachable in their youth and suitable for long-term cellaring.
