Pinot Noir 2012 - Thomas Studach

Tasting notes

"Offering sweet red berries along with floral aromas on a very clear, balanced, slightly spicy and invitingly delicate bouquet this is a silky textured, beautifully harmonious Pinot with finest and most stimulating tannins and a lingering and tension-full freshness we all love Pinot Noir for. This full-bodied wine is pure and firmly structured and really long. I managed to get the very last bottle of Gerstl Weinselektionen which demonstrates how well the Swiss wine people are informed about the finest Pinot Noirs from their country."

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

Thomas Studach, a Swiss winemaker based in Malans, in the Bündner Herrschaft region (Grisons), has been producing exceptional wines since 1988. Since 1991, he has dedicated himself entirely to his 3-hectare estate, practicing meticulous, environmentally respectful viticulture with strictly controlled yields to ensure optimal quality.

His estate is known for its limited annual production of 15,000 bottles, making his wines highly sought after. He primarily produces three single-varietal wines:

  • Pinot Noir: Aged in barrels, this wine is praised for its elegance and complexity.
  • Chardonnay: Inspired by great Burgundian wines, it combines freshness with deep aromatics.
  • Completer: A rare indigenous variety, offering a spicy character and marked acidity.

Studach is recognized as one of Switzerland’s finest winemakers, with a style often compared to that of his mentor, Daniel Gantenbein.
