Most wanted wine estate by region:
Randy Dunn established his reputation as a top class Cabernet Sauvignon producer as winemaker at the renowned Caymus estate in the 1970s and early 1980s. Since 1979 he has been producing a mere 5000 cases a year from his Howell Mountain winery.
Chiara Boschis is a true protagonist among the small, but driven group of women winemakers in the Langhe. Coming from a long lineage of viticulturists, she took the reins of E. Pira & Figli in 1990. Her parents purchased the estate in 1981 from an old wine producing family who had no heirs to take over the property. While she never wanted to change the winery’s name, she tastefully added her own. Her goal from the beginning has been to seamlessly unite the astonishing potential of Barolo, with approachable elegance, and bold, intense aromas.
She achieves this goal, vintage after vintage, through rigorous vineyard management, meticulous selection, and impeccable vinification techniques such as shortened maceration, malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and aging in big oak barrels or barriques. In 2010, her brother, Giorgio joined her, and they now run this historical small wine cellar together.
Today, the estate’s extremely limited production is crafted from eight and a half hectares of vineyards. Located only amongst the best hills of Monforte d'Alba, Serralunga d'Alba and Barolo, the family still cultivates a small plot in the famed Cannubi vineyard. The resulting wines are some of the most refined and delicate wines in Italy. Their collection is envied by many.
Edge Hill is one of Napa’s Valley’s most historical and treasured winery properties. The original 1500 acres was settled by General Erasmus Keyes after serving in the Civil War (rising to Brigadier General and leading Keyes’s Brigade at the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861). He had a personal letter signed by Abraham Lincoln providing the deed to this particular property.
Edge Hill wines are produced in extremely limited quantities; each wine typically is between 100 and 200 cases (total production each year is often around 700 cases).
The Clos de la Neore is a choice parcel of the famous Mont Damnes vineyard – a grand cru spot with an ideal southern exposure and the pure chalk soil that produces the best Sancerres.
Edradour is often described as the smallest Whisky distillery there is in Scotland. There are a few smaller distilleries in Scotland. The output of the two pot stills is only about 100,000 litres per year.
Located in the hills above Neive, the largest town in Piedmont’s Barbaresco zone.
The Paitin estate includes 17.5 hectares of vineyard, mostly situated along either side of the Via Serra Boella in Bricco di Neive, with the namesake Sorì Paitin vineyard forming the heart of the property.
Barbaresco “Sorì Paitin,” the flagship wine from four hectares of southern exposed vines in the monopole Sorì Paitin; and their top wine, the “Sorì Paitin Vecchie Vigne,” from a single hectare of 55 year-old vines (planted in 1953) within the greater Sorì Paitin site.
Grandfather Giuseppe Altare purchased the farm and winery in 1948, and our family practiced the typical Piemontese mixed agriculture up until the mid-1970s.
Today the family works 10 hectares, of which five are rented. They have adopted techniques aimed at respecting nature. The principle objective is that of limiting the use of chemical substances, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Elio Grasso is a self-declared disciple of Aldo Conterno. He was always an admirer of the Conterno estate.
The sandy soils of Gavarini make a different style of Barolo than the clay based soils of Ginestra. Matured in large Slovenian botte, the colour is deep and the nose somewhat unevolved.
Emidio Pepe founded his winery in 1964, starting out with 15 hectares in Torano Nuovo. Emidio's two daughters now run the estate, continuing the hands-on approach to making wine that their father favoured back then.
In most vintages there are two Montepulciano wines made at the winery.
One made from young vines which is released only in Italy after a few years of aging, and one that is laid down in the cellar for, normally, at least five years. The bottlings from young vines are never exported outside of Italy. The winery doesn't feel the young vine wines have the body or complexity to make the voyage overseas.
Nephew of the brilliant Henri Jayer , Emmanuel Rouget farms the former holdings of the Jayer brothers in grand cru Echézeaux and the Vosne-Romanée premier crus of Beauxmonts and Cros Parantoux.
Azienda Agricola Enzo Boglietti is a family run winery that produces about 100.000 bottles a year with grapes coming exclusively from ha 22 of vineyards of property.
The winery is located in La Morra, while the vineyards are scattered amongst the Comuni of La Morra, Barolo, Monforte, Serralunga d’Alba, Roddino e Sinio.
Enzo Boglietti together with his daughter Linda and his son Matteo are dedicated to produce high quality wines.
In the year 1629 Simon Mayr „Kuchenmayr“ from Völs am Schlern purchased the Unterganznerhof.
This estate is a typical example of the South Tyrolean closed farm system.
Today, since more than 25 years we – that is Josephus and Barbara Mayr – absolve the whole process from the grape to the filled bottle in own production.
