Château Margaux 1981

Tasting notes

"(...) It is an outstanding wine, even in the company of the monumental wines of 1982, 1983, and 1986, although it does not have the power and weight of these vintages. It is still very dark ruby/purple-colored. The aromatics suggest ripe cassis fruit, spicy vanillin oakiness, and violets. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, concentrated, tannic, and extremely long. It is just beginning to open and evolve."

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

Although it is of considerable size, the vineyard is cultivated with meticulous application and pious repect of quality. The only wines which are given the honor of bearing the Château margaux label are those which have passed the test of stringent selection. This segregation which is extremely severe leads to the production of the second wine, distruted under the label "Pavillon rouge du Château Margaux".

A parcel of very fine gravel soil covering some 12 hectares has been planted for more than a century to the Sauvignon blanc grape, which in limited quantities, produces a dry wine, original and subtle, called the "Pavillon blanc du Château Margaux."
