'Vigna d'Alceo' 2000 - Castello dei Rampolla

Tasting notes

"For whatever reason, the full-bodied 2000 Vigna d'Alceo was roaring the day I tasted it. A single vineyard blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Sangiovese, it tastes like the Sammarco on steroids. It boasts a deep purple color in addition to scents of espresso, sweet melted licorice, black currant jam, and toasty oak. There is great intensity, superb purity, and a finish that lingers for nearly a minute."

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

This winery is located in the Chianti Classico wine zone.

Situated on 42 hectares of calcareous soil about 360 meters above sea level, these vineyards are ideal for Sangiovese, which here achieves particular vigour and potential for long-aging.

While Sammarco is a pioneer in the Super-Tuscan establishment, Castello dei Rampolla’s d’Alceo—which debuted in 1996 as Vigna d’Alceo —has undeniably attracted greater attention. Its intense marriage of opulence and power has given it cult status, placing it in the realm of Masseto and Messorio.
