Château Cheval Blanc 1987

Tasting notes

"Considered the most difficult vintage of the decade, 1984 constitutes a pleasant surprise. It has good body, but is strongly marked by the near total absence of Merlot, which suffered greatly from the heavy rain in May. The fairly deep brick-red colour shows that the wine is old. However, the discreet, elegant nose also displays certain freshness - a reflection of the huge proportion of Cabernet Franc in the blend. The wine is moderately well-structured on the palate and shows some astringency on the aftertaste. "

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

Château Cheval Blanc – Icon of Saint-Émilion

A benchmark on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most celebrated and sought-after estates in the world of fine wine. Known for its unique terroir and signature style, Cheval Blanc consistently delivers wines of rare depth, elegance, and aging potential.

A Unique Terroir and Grape Composition

The 39-hectare vineyard sits at the boundary of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, benefiting from a rare mix of gravel, clay, and sandy soils—a geological mosaic that defines the singular identity of the estate. Unlike most Saint-Émilion properties, Cabernet Franc plays a dominant role (about 52%), alongside Merlot (43%) and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. This unusual blend results in wines of silkiness, freshness, and aromatic complexity.

Legendary Wines, Timeless Vintages

Château Cheval Blanc produces two wines: – Château Cheval Blanc: the Grand Vin, with legendary vintages such as 1947, 1982, 2000, 2005, 2009, and 2016.
Le Petit Cheval: the second wine, crafted with the same care and precision, offering an earlier drinking window.

These wines are known for their seamless texture, layered aromatics, and ability to age gracefully over decades.
