Richebourg Grand Cru 2009 - Domaine Grivot

Tasting notes

"The 2009 Richebourg comes across as quite elegant and restrained for this site. This isn’t a huge Richebourg, rather it is a wine that convinces for its overall balance and sense of harmony. Today it is the wine’s length and minerality that stand out. It will be interesting to see where the Richebourg goes over the coming years. Everything here is implied rather than stated. (...)"

INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE ESTATE

The Domaine Jean Grivot is an iconic family winery located in Vosne-Romanée, at the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. Its history dates back to the early 19th century when the Grivot family, originally from the Jura, settled in Vosne-Romanée. Jean Grivot took over the domain in 1955, and since 1987, his son Étienne Grivot has led the estate, marking the fifth generation of winemakers.

The estate spans 15 hectares across 22 different appellations, including prestigious Grand Crus such as Richebourg, Échézeaux, and Clos de Vougeot, as well as renowned Premier Crus like Les Beaux Monts, Aux Brûlées, and Les Suchots.

In recent years, Étienne has been joined by his children, Mathilde and Hubert, who bring a modern approach while respecting the family’s traditions. The estate practices environmentally friendly viticulture, with much of the work done by horses, and has begun transitioning to organic farming. The grapes are hand-harvested, and winemaking follows traditional methods adapted to each vintage, with whole-cluster fermentation and natural yeasts.

Domaine Jean Grivot wines are known for their elegance, finesse, and aging potential. They perfectly reflect the terroir of the Côte de Nuits, offering complex aromas and balanced structure. The Grivot family continues to preserve ancestral know-how while incorporating modern practices to produce exceptional wines.
